In his first year as a head coach, he took a Sun Belt school to the CWS Finals. Do you honestly think a major program won't try to hire him? To be clear, I think he's an arrogant prick. But many major programs don't care if you are a raging a-hole. They want winners.

The previous coach left him with an elite pitching staff that he rode to the finals. Let’s see if he can do it himself moving forward

Remember that season a LSU head coach who knew nothing about football won a NC then got paid $20,000,000.00 to leave?

His ambition is to be like that scumbag at Tennessee.

Yeah...we had a head coach that knew nothing about football, idiot. Imagine if he had known just a little, we might have had the greatest team ever.

Yeah. No time to talk about a loser. The time has come to keep Jay happy with where he currently resides.

Not saying he wouldn’t leave the school to triple his salary but he played at coastal and was an assistant there for a good 20 years before becoming the HC there. I’d call that pretty loyal to the program

His behavior makes sense knowing all of this. He has no interest in going anywhere else, apparently loves Coastal, and he's "one of them", which explains the university standing behind him.

Still no less of a joke. Scummy. Absolutely nothing likeable about the guy, even down to teaching his team how to make turning into a pitch look unintentional.

Anything to win, even if it means being a total DB.

Everyone jumped off of Jay's bandwagon when he lost 3 in a row to Auburn. Let's not forget.

I am happy that the tigers won, but I do believe the umpire got his feelings hurt and pulled the trigger a bit soon. It was the pinnacle of NCCA baseball for goodness sake!!!

Pretty stupid considering I can see Pawwwl staying at USCe for too long - seems like that would be a great fit but like you mentioned - he didn't do himself any favors.

.aside from coming across as a complete douche, he cost himself a LOT of money imo.

I doubt it. He took Coastal all the way to the Championship Series and had the most wins in CBB this season. If he can maintain somewhat close to that level of success over the next couple of years bigger programs will be after him. Vitello is a douche and his teams are unlikable. Doesn't matter. He wins. If you took a straw-poll of LSU fans back in the 2021 offseason of who they wanted to be the next HC -- Jay Johnson or Vitello--Vitello would have won in a landslide.

Winning is ALL that matters...no matter how much fans want to pretend otherwise.

Kevin was in line to maybe be picked up by a big time college and tripling his salary but he did not do himself any favors. After a verbal warning he cussed out the umpire on national tv and was tossed. Then he acts like a douchebag in the press conferences. The guy is definitely not marketing himself in a positive light.

He has been HC 1 year lets see how he does building a roster after coming in with the previous coaches talent before we make him out to be worth getting an "SEC type" HC job.

There is information that Schnall had created a reputation for abusing umpires and arguing balls and strikes. If so, this crew knew if and set a short fuse.
Yes, it was fast and it was early, but a well- reputation may have set up this scenario.

a-hole 1st base coach arguing balls and strikes in the 1st inning. Have you ever heard of such a thing?
Enough to get a warning.

Then, instead of asking with humility what the warning was for...
Schnall walked out towards the ump already yelling and angry.
And when he is told it was for arguing balls and strikes.....
he proceeds to do more arguing about balls and strikes. After a warning.
He's either an idiot or has anger management issues.... or both.

I feel bad for the Coastal players. That was a good ball club. They just got stuck with 2 idiot coaches.

Eventually his HRT rage will wear off and he will realize he completely embarrassed himself and his program.

I disagree that he will ever believe that he did anything wrong. Bullies like O'Sullivan and Schnall don't have the capabilities of admitting they are wrong, even to themselves, and instead press on and double down every chance they get(see press conference). Even in the face of video and audio evidence that he was wrong, disrespectful to the game and umpires, and had no one other than his own AD backing him, he still is holding to the I'm right stance.
