Kelly’s process, evaluations, and no decisions until after bowl games.

With Denbrock leaving before the bowl game, it makes it hard for me to believe any changes will be made with House. He either had a historically bad defense or he didn’t. You don’t need six weeks to evaluate what your eyes told you for 3 months. House refusing to adjust his defense wasted a historically good offense. Tired of watching other teams not hesitate to make essential moves while House and company are seemingly unscathed. Notre Dame went and got there guy before their bowl game, Kelly’s slow rolling makes it less likely by the day that any changes are coming. If your plan is to coach up high school talent for next year with the same coaches, same defensive schemes, same reactive calls, good luck watching the playoffs again from home.

With Denbrock leaving, I really think House is staying.
My logic is this, House cost Denbrock a championship, and the Broyles award… if Denbrock found out that House would be back, he probably threw up the deuces.

So … what DID your “eyes” tell you about the defense this year?
What I mean is …. And this is nuanced thinking … saying “that sucked” is easy. The question CBK has to answer is WHY did it suck?
There were many things that derailed the defense that had nothing to do with House. And so MANY of them happened all at once, there just were no good options.
Maybe … MAYBE ….some of the obvious defensive adjustments that we wanted to see on the field wouldn’t have worked out like we’d like to think they would have?
It’s possible CBK is looking around at possible candidates to replace House and none are much better. Most are assistants with no real record perhaps?
I don’t know on this “fire House” thing — it’s not as obvious as many here make it seem. It’s a 50/50 call. Reasonable people can disagree.
Flame away, but thats what I think.

Easiest thing to see is this was the slowest D we’ve had that I can remember. That’s recruiting.

This is how an organization that is stable is supposed to operate.

Slowest defense I can remember. Really poor tackling. Hard to believe the 3rd and long was almost certainly going to be converted for first downs. Put some speed out there with guys capable of making a tackle.

Why can’t yall understand the want house to “leave” on his own to go back to nfl so they don’t have to pay buyout

Ya got me there. Every 3rd and long, when I’d see 3 LSU linemen rushing, I KNEW….no pressure on the QB, soft arse zone, corners 8 yards off the LOS, wide open receiver in the middle for a 20 yard pass, first down. Some kinda “prevent defense” thing? What is that?
So often, even I could see it happening. After 1-2 games, the DC HAS to try something else.

I get that it’s Corporate America 101 to need 18 weeks of evaluation and hiring consulting firms, etc. to figure out things that one competent leader should be able to do actively and continuously, but if Brian Kelly really doesn’t already know the answers in great detail as to why our defense wasn’t in the top 100 this season then he needs to hang it up and retire because the rest of his tenure here will be disastrous.
I really don’t know how anyone can “logic” their way into thinking that keeping House would be anything other than a permanent and final nail in BK’s coffin in terms of him ever being a consistent playoff/championship coach. It really is that simple. When you’re a leader and a unit, department, or team fails as miserably as House’s did, you fire them and start over no questions asked, even if it’s arguably not 100% on them.

What I saw throughout this season was no improvement from week one until the second half of the A&M game. Kelly said in his postgame interview that they learned the cover 2 in the locker room at halftime. I believe him because they came out forced turnovers and got stops because their QB was confused. I saw House refuse to spy Perkins or Weeks on Milroe at Bama, well except for their first drive when Perkins spying got a sack. I saw DB’s all year playing 10 to 15 yards off the WR and as a result 3rd and long became a cakewalk. House’s defense reminds me of Dennis Allen and the Saints defense, 300 pound DE playing the run, no pass rush and playing zone. Is it schemes or is it talent? House is responsible for both with the salary he’s bringing in and he failed miserably.

I see plenty of stable organizations make moves when they are needed. This isn’t a melt about losing Denbrock, I hate to see it but understand it. Firing a defensive coordinator for what we just witnessed as fans is not unstable. Other stable teams are making moves and Kelly seems content ride with the failure that is the 2023 defense.

Or changes have already been agreed to and will be announced after the bowl game.

So I guess you would have also melted your arse off as a Bama fan last year when Saban waited until January to replace BOTH of his coordinators. You would consider them to be a pretty stable organization, yes?
Head coaches do things when they want them done, not when the fans or media want them done.
ETA: BOB and Golding left in January. Saban didn’t replace them until February.

Ok, but how could it have been worse

Rumor was House wanted to leave last year. BK is letting him find an NFL job as a position coach. I would assume he leaves in January like Polian did last year. We have the money to pull a good DC so timing isn’t the priority right now for BK.

Look at how Saban handled last season. Bill O’brian and Pete Golding were allowed to find other jobs, and that didn’t happen till mid-late January. Bama fans also were throwing fits. Patience, people.

Kelly needs to hire a DL coach quickly.
