Game would not have been close had they ran the ball especially in first half. They were getting chunks at a time.

They blitzed almost every play and no screens or slants. It was tough to watch on the couch.

Advocate article

Some quotes:

quote:

“We've seen three-down (linemen) probably more than any other front,” Kelly said. “I think what was different is their edges were a little bit more aggressive. We simply didn't take advantage of that aggressiveness.”

quote:

“We have to prepare for those kinds of situations where defenses say we're just going to give you everything we've got, and what do we have to lose?” Kelly said. “It falls on me and our offensive staff to prepare for those kinds of situations, and we'll be prepared, and it won't happen again.”

quote:

“Our preparation has to be better,” Kelly said. “We have to coach better. I'll put a lot of that on myself in terms of preparing our football team, in particular on the offensive side of the ball.”

If you watched Caskey on Culotta yesterday, Daniels missed wide open WRs on those sacks

On some of them, but not all. There is lots of blame to go around on that part of the game vs Arky.

That is the problem. He was back to waiting until the WRs were wide open and waving their arms in the air. Go back and watch again. Zone windows were tight and his timing needs to be when they come out their breaks. The early turnovers had him hesitant to pull the trigger on throws not wanting to give the ball up the rest of the game.

Safe to assume that we will see the same coverages the rest of the way.

Still think he was told to run less and we ran a lot of deep pass play attempts this game to work on getting that part of our offense down. It should have been a weakness of Arkansas but I don’t think our coaches expected Arkansas to come at us that aggressively or that our Oline would get pushed around as easily as they did (given how well they’ve played all year).

Whether it was Daniels not reading the defense properly or how the ball felt in his hand it was just not right. Maybe he was cold and not confident, but if that's the case the coaches have to call plays that force the ball out.

Screens, short side hitches, fades (gather, look off, throw). Do what needs to happen to get first downs.

I am glad that they ran the ball...after the first two series I was having serious doubts. W is a W on to this weekends game.

That’s all Alabama did to us and he did well against them.

This. We ran almost none of that but the few we did run worked for the most part.

Yep. I’m not too worried about it. I really think it was just a hangover game in a cold climate where the opposing team did some things our coaches didn’t expect and didn’t adjust for.

Here is an example of Caskey being FOS.

Arkansas rusher immediately comes free. Daniels is forced to either throw at this point with a high safety in place (hint: interception), or scramble forward and to his left which (unless your QB is Patrick Mahomes) takes those routes to the right, and the short crosser out of play. This is the perfect example of the gameplan problem given our inability to pass protect.

Caskey then audaciously points out the "wide-open" safety valve. How the hell is JD supposed to make that throw?

I'm just glad he didn't panic and just throw the ball up in the air or we might not have 50 threads on playoff possibilities.
Yet that is exactly what Caskey is claiming he should have done.

No doubt Kelly should have made in-game adjustments, but I think the whole point of him coming out and saying the offensive coaches failed to do that is that it is ultimately his responsibility and, for whatever reason, he didn't get the job done on that side of the ball during the game. Gotta admire a man who admits openly when he was wrong. Great leadership trait.
