Chicken’s post said oblique tear. An oblique is not an ab. If he had said ab tear, I could understand.

The logical question to ask going into the Southeastern week is: “what gives me a better performance from Garrett Nussmeier against Ole Miss - an extra week of practice/game reps or an extra week of rest?”

And prior to this Kelly said himself that Nuss needed time to heal. So it still doesnt make sense

Is an ab strain not a core injury?

By Kelly's own words, Nuss just needed a week off to be better. He should have sat him for Tech or SELU, then he would have been fine and MVB would have gotten some valuable experience with his new team.

Instead we got the shite show we have witnessed the entire season.

Nice job, Mr. $10 Million Dollar Man.

If Nuss starts the next game and by the second offensive series does not show stronger passing and an ability to gain yardage by running, then it will clearly be time to change to the backup QB. The Nuss we have seen so far will not beat many SEC teams. If he is not obviously better physically at the start of the next game, then sticking with him without at least trying someone else is the equivalent of sticking your head in sand because you cannot come up with anything better.

It’s a calculated risk. I don’t think this is that complicated, and it has nothing to do with beating Southeastern.

The logical question to ask going into the Southeastern week is: “what gives me a better performance from Garrett Nussmeier against Ole Miss - an extra week of practice/game reps or an extra week of rest?”

Answering that question requires input from the coaches, medical staff, and Nussmeier himself. Imagine the medical staff tells you there’s low risk of re-injury and that it’s unlikely to make much difference to his overall recovery time either way. Now imagine the coaches say that the offense/Nuss really need the work, and Nussmeier himself says he’s fine and wants to play. What do you do?

I’m not saying that’s exactly how it went down. Nobody really knows at this point. If it did go down that way, it certainly appears to have backfired. But I’m a little surprised so many people are unwilling to even consider the tradeoff here.

To me, this is the right line of thinking. And, to add to the point, there were reports (maybe Kelly addressed this, don't remember) that the lackluster offense they thought was because of the practice time that Nuss had missed...and that they really thought things would turn around now that he was healthy enough to get all the reps at practice.

Nuss has played horribly and if not fit for 5 turnovers and a pick 6 by the D, we very well might be 0-2 to start conference play.

He can’t move well, can’t push the ball down field….his poor play is hurting the team.

We don’t have a good enough OL and running game to hide him as he heals up.

You went out and paid good money for a back up with SEC experience for this exact scenario and instead of using him we just waited until it bit us in the arse. At minimum, he had no business playing in the non conference games

I really don't think the staff believes Van Buren is an upgrade over what they think they can get out of Nuss.

Now, Nuss could totally play below the level that they think he should all things considered. I think Ole Miss was an example of that.

Almost healed =\= healed. If Nuss ain’t 100% put Van Buren in. If Nuss is 100% and continues to play like he did in September then put Van Buren in.

but he is on the back side of that and it should be healed for South Carolina.

If he was in the back end and close to 100%, why did he look his absolute worst, form wise, on not rotating? Why did he look his worst velocity wise?

DID COACH SAY ANYTHING ABOUT RUNNING THE BALL IN DIFFERENT FORMATIONS?

THE SLOW DEVELOPING HANDOFF WITH ZERO QB THREAT TO RUN DOESN'T WORK AT ALL!

THIS IS FREE ADVICE COACH- STOP RUNNING/ CALLING STUPID PLAYS FROM FORMATIONS THAT FLAG FOOTBALL COACHES CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO STOP.

Bets we’ll still see an opening drive of 7 yard behind the line of scrimmage pass to the left followed by a run into the back of the Center, then a severely under thrown pass then punt.

Thats still no excuse for not pulling a injured Nuss during the Ole Miss game and putting in Van Burren, Brian Kelly basically cost LSU that game.

This is a very good observation. With Kelly now admitting an injury and Nuss's poor play, how can any coach justify leaving Nuss in? If the justification is we have no backup QB that can play as good or better than Nuss's performance against Old Miss, the Tigers have bigger problems than Nuss .
