So, they didn’t embrace the importance of previous openers? Is that why he’s lost them all? Don’t know if he’s the best man for the job

I mean what is he supposed to say?

He treated them like a scrimmage. The Tigers were not prepared to play.

Rumbling around BR was that Kelly coasted more than previous coaches during the summer and was behind each year when camp started.

This quote lines up with his statement. Hope the team is better prepared this year.

Not sure if anyone remembers this but much was made about how they had 2 offenses on the field at the same time in practice. Defense would line up and go against one offense and the at the end of the play the other offense was lined up ready to go and the defense had to sprint into place to defend that offense and they kept repeating this. By the time the game came it was normal or slow to them

It's a shame because I feel that LSU had the talent to win all 3 of those games, and the last 2 should have been won by double digits.

Hard disagree on 23 FSU. That defense was never going to allow us to win that game.

The others, yes.

I thought this was the best quote because it's so fing true

quote:

"What it really means is that LSU football is among the elite," Kelly says. "Only one team goes home with that championship. [The fans] want to do it every year. But they want an elite football team. They want one that is competing for a championship. 9-4 is not competing for a championship. You're out of the discussion when you lose your third game. And so it's my job to put this program back in elite status."'

As fans we want to win national titles, but being 10-2 or 11-1 annually puts you in position to win it all, and that's really all fans should hope for. Have a chance to win it all in November and beyond.

I personally don’t like his verbiage on a lot of stuff.

I’m about that action, so I’m at a point this year where if he goes 10-3 or 9-4 the realization will set in he is not the guy and ultimately he won’t win anything of note while he is here.

He's likely saying that in the past they treated it the same as any other game. Basically using the "treat every game as the same" approach. He's saying that they are putting an emphasis on this specific game this year. You're reading too much into it. Just watch the game an cheer for LSU.

Well he obviously didn't treat every game the same in past years. You should treat every game the same though. In all of them you need to have your team ready to run through a brick wall with intensity, focus, and physicality and go out and win them

Remember all those years Les built up the Alabama game and when LSU would lose, they looked like they were largely apathetic the rest of the way? That's the danger of going "all in" on a game, win or lose frankly. Luckily for LSU, if they win the Clemson game, they have a relative lay up the next week against Tech.

This year, however, thye have emphasized week 1 as being significant and not just another game.

Maybe he needs to treat every game as significant then

Bro just say you don’t like Coach Kelly

There’s no reason to pick apart his generic, coach-speak answers looking to overanalyze what he said so you can bitch about stuff and ask ignorant questions

Yea man, they totally didn’t embrace the importance of an opening game. You’re as big of a clown as you think Kelly is. What a stupid question

This is probably out of context or us reading into it too much. But Christ cmon now BK.

Very much out of context. Sounds like his approach is not to overhype a big opener & follow the typical week-by-week / just do your job HC messaging.

Maybe he’s saying they’ve decided to lean into the hype instead. Or maybe he knows this is a monkey on his back & is just feeding BS to the press.

It would be much better if he said we are going to approach this the exact same way despite our lack of success.

He has been on record to state that when ramping up fall camp, you don't want to gas your team before the 1st game of the season. You typically ramp up then use the 1st and 2nd game of the season to get into full season form (assuming those are easily winnable games).

My interpretation is that they are going to ramp up fall camp and be ready for "mid season form" at the start of the season.

It's a bold move because you don't want to have the kids worn out going into the back end of the season.

He knows he has to win game one, just for optics alone. Im guessing fall camp is going to be all business, no bullshite.
