Training clips from his HS days are what got everyone so excited about this player. But anyone can seem to be a workout warrior in a few video clips. He looked fat and out of shape in the spring game video. That’s what counts.

That’s some great training for him. He had weak skinny legs and was too heavy. Working on balance, strengthening his lower body, and creating a solid base can go a long way for him. He already has the upper body strength and aggression.

I disagree with this. "Workout Warrior" implies that no matter what he does off the field he doesn't have enough to see the field (and be effective).

While I do think that he HAS to be a workout warrior to have a chance to see the field, in that we agree. But if he does it the potential is there for him to see the field and contribute greatly.

Now, if he doesn't get it done soon - like this year - incoming batches and next years [possible] batch he'll get passed further.

The injury obviously put him off schedule. And there was a change in attitude that needed to happen also. That attitude change required was a result of several factors that aren't worth commenting on.

But one is, with significant injury the rehab (done) and catch-up (the problem here) S&C is always a concern for trainers regarding their attitude. Significant injury seems to light a fire under some players arse; some get dejected for whatever reason and become inconsistent with their rehab/catch-up. Kardell is one of latter. If you don't have the proper mental state to stay consistent and follow the trajectory it is really hard to catch up. It's not that he isn't/wasn't doing anything; it was that he was inconsistent with it with what can only be described as periods of lazy. That's where he is. An analogy is math- you might do great for years soaking it all in, then slack off for a year and not learn what you needed. Now the next year, despite many good years, is going to be tough because it is a linear progression and you can't skip a step/point.

yep. And while the level of competition was definitely a factor of him not being where other players coming from larger HS's are, there is another, not so obvious, issue with smaller schools. Coaching and physical development. If Kardell had come from a West Monroe or Karr he would've likely had much better developed lower body strength and core. That's partly resources, but primarily coaching and trainers at smaller schools.

The purpose of the training is to strengthen the ankle he severely damaged. The inconsistency mentioned on this board does not acknowledge the ankle mobility lost due to the severity of the injury. The video shows him primarily strengthening the left side which would indicate it was the left ankle. None of us know what he went through to trash the guy like this and to call him lazy.

I'll take this guy's insight over the speculation here:

He still has that weird build.

I hate to say it but it's going to take a lot for him to start at lsu.

With all the bs the ncaa is doing with eligibility, there needs to be a way to "freeze" eligibility for a couple of years so the kids can have sufficient time.to heal thru therapy and naturally.
It's obvious he needs 3 years from point of injury, considering the leg mass he needs to build/rebuild after the ankle is stable. You can't play in the sec without the foundation of the feet and legs. It sucks seeing he is still going thru this.

He is legend in my book and will be an LSU tiger for life and help us with recruiting in his area...which is great.

I thought the training clip would be for Sumo Wrestling.
Good luck to Kardell. Hope to see him as a starter next season. We will need him to step up.

Never want to count a kid out but I don’t think we ever see Kardell play meaningful snaps for LSU. Mike Detillier said yesterday that it was very obvious watching Kardell on the field that his injury has robbed him of some of the ability that made him a top recruit.

I hate that this is a thing. When people type that out ,it makes them seem low iq.

But with kardell, I think everyone has been easy on him because of the injury. As long as hes working his but off now, what does it matter what he did before?
