give the team the extra practices in the spring and fall.

If these bowls become any more of a joke… ratings and ticket sales will crash, and sponsors are going to bail.

And that will naturally solve the problem right there. Let the market correct itself.

Well then don’t watch.

But I’m gonna. And that’s why the bowl exists.

I hate two-thirds of the bowls and could live without them, but exactly "who" will dump the bowls?

Bowls are private - the NCAA doesn't control them.

You and I could start a bowl if we get a sponsor and a TV deal.

Ratings are always going to be there. Its live football. Until New Years, every bowl game is the only football on television in its time slot. As for sponsors, these games are a three hour advertisement for them and a marketing write off. The only reason we have so many games is companies wanting to advertise.

Yeah I really wish that we had no college football on tv right now. And the players don’t deserve to have a fun trip to a bowl game because LSUFanHouston said so. You sound miserable

So weird that people who will watch the spring game will also bitch about LSU playing an additional competitive game on national TV.

Boutte isn't playing? Cool, it's the Citrus bowl between two teams with 9 combined losses and gives a chance for someone else to step up. No need to be dramatic.

My sense is that viewership is down already. I have no data to support this but I haven’t watch a game. May try to catch some SEC teams as the week unfolds. It’s pretty much exhibition football.

I agree, you can only look bad with all your best players opting out. The old days are over this is the new college ball bowl game victories literally mean nothing outside playoffs

In 2021, bowl games—including CFP bowls—averaged 4.7 million viewers. That number eclipsed the average viewership for a MLB playoff game that season (3.48M). This year’s Vegas Bowl pulled in 2.5 million viewers to beat several other programs airing on the same week, including WWE Smackdown on Fox (2.2M), UCLA-Kentucky basketball on CBS (2M) and a Celtics-Lakers NBA game televised on ESPN (1.7M).

Reall-time game length competition does more for a team than a whole summer of practice. I actually like the bowl games when the SEC teams start to play.
