He said a basketball coach on staff told him that LSU is getting a new arena in 3 years and Mulkey just stamped that. He said Mulkey is going to help big time in the fundraising department, she has a lot of connections in the Houston area who are Louisiana natives but donate to Baylor because of her. This is a great day!

Lets do it now and have Shaq short term finance it for us.

Maybe it can be The General Arena or Icy Hot Court

They've been talking about it for years. I would assume it's going to stay where the current PMAC is since they have done so much renovations around the PMAC specifically for basketball/gymnastics/volleyball recently.

3 years is a pretty aggressive time frame

I wonder where it would go? I always thought the track stadium was a great corner spot but 3 years wouldn’t be enough time to build the track team a new facility as well.

If they put it on the same spot as the current PMAC will the teams play at the Centroplex?

Anything dealing with basketball, take it to the bank when it comes from him.

Heard the same from someone I trust over the weekend. She is going to be front and center for fundraising efforts. She is going to be a great ambassador for LSU.

Funny what a new coach and mentality can do.

Next up: the box.

I believe that 100%. Houston has a LOT of LSU natives living there due to the oil field industry.

sad how quickly this dated

I think we let Skip and the traditionalists be too involved in its design and their quest to make it like the old box...just none of the character and charm

LSU will probably be playing a season or two at the Raisin Canes Center in order to tear down the PMAC and build a new one.

There were plans to announce a campus wide infrastructure improvement including both academic and athletic facilities which were put off by Covid. This was a multi billion dollar long term plan that was to be coupled with a large fund raising campaign. The plan included basketball facility improvements. With the Mulkey hire, I'm hopeful that the basketball practice facility/ops upgrades as well as upgrade/replacement of the PMAC will be fast tracked.

Yes sir, get ready to breathe on the players. A couple of mocks have been brought up already. Mulkey and Wade want the PMAC to become the equivalent of Death Valley. They want a Modernized facility that’s comfortable and luxury to fans but also intimidating to opposing teams.

Somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 seats.

Doubt that happens any time soon.

Definitely think a major renovation that completely changes the look and feel inside will get done by then.

ETA:

Sorry to be a bearer of bad news but the structure is in great shape and while not a great layout the superstructure is big enough to fit a smaller court and seating inside of it. LSU does not like to tear down buildings even when they're in bad shape, I just don't see them completely getting rid of the PMAC. Hell, the only proposals I've seen for the Cow Palace has them building a superstructure inside of the current structure.

Also, the additional weight of the new scoreboard was pretty much inconsequential. I just don't see LSU getting rid of one of their buildings that's in the best shape, especially for its age. The only issue recently has been with the ramps and that had nothing to do with the building structure.
