This will sound tacky but they should play both. Johnson in short yardage and when they want to run no huddle and Finley in passing downs. It's probably not going to be pretty with either starting every play, so might as well try to maximize your chances on every down.

Why was Johnson warming up vs Mizzou. Seems that would have been Finley if he was going to start

Max was further along developmentally when he came to LSU. IDK how they performed since arriving on campus though.

All reports from camp have been saying Finley is the guy. Max Johnson just more mobile

If neither has separated themselves from the other in practice, then give them both 2 series in the first half and roll with whoever looks better.

I thought Finley had serious accuracy issues, just a cannon for an arm.

Max was coming in for the Mizzou game so there's that.

If they are that close in the coach's eyes, have a plan to play both and evaluate after that.

If he can't hit is target, that cannon arm means NOTHING.

In recent videos, Finley has appeared to be on target.
Since his dad was a professional, Johnson came in more prepared.
Coaches will figure it out. I'm happy we have them both.

Wouldn't be surprised if both play, but hopefully we pick a guy early in the week so he can get all the reps with the 1's

It’s Max there’s not much debate if you ask me. It was a fact that when Brennan got hurt it was Max that was going to come in so that should tell you right there. I think they will find a series or two to work Finley in but Max will be first up.

Give me the guy with more mobility, especially considering how both are inexperienced and will likely struggle in the passing game. At least have the threat of the QB run.

Johnson was the backup warming up in Missouri.

He is also far more mobile. It really helps to be very mobile when you're coming in as an inexperienced freshman. There will be a lot more broken plays and he can make something out of those easier. And RPO's aren't complicated and Johnson can run those.

It doesn’t matter that much, especially in college.

Finley almost had his scholly yanked. If not for his HS coaches threaten the staff with no more talent from Ponchy then he would be playing somewhere else.

Johnson will be the starter. Kid is going to be a stud.

Aycock will put away his orange vest and get the start.
