No, he doesn't deserve crap...after last year's tourney debacle and now this year's embarassment...no he doesn't DESERVE anything. It is a privilege earned and nothing in his time here has shown any hope for improvement going forward. 4 years is enough...huge mistake not making a change.

It should be the end of joe. Has he done anything that wasn't a complete embarrassment since nov?

Further proof LSU has no standards, no desire, no expectations and no accountability when it comes to basketball. And, it further proves that the Athletic Director is ok playing in front of 5,000 next season.

So be a professional and dont make excuses.

Obviously losing those players was large part of the season.

Blakeney played and showed no signs of sickness- that was just pathetic to continually bring that up as if it was his fault you decided to "turn down" a bid
What about the WF loss?
Second half of the SEC?
Everyone was there for those. One player does not make a team. shite our best player and lottery pick didnt even miss any of those.

Its simply pathetic, and to act dumbfounded when hit with questions about whats really going on with Blakeney and Ben absolutely baffles me.

I'm not going to continue this argument. I don't give a damn what the man says at a press conference. I said it already, he needs to win a game in the NCAA Tournament next season or I'll agree that he needs to go.

He's bringing in 5 new players for next season. I want to see what he can do with a very different roster. I want to give him the chance to correct his mistakes from this year. In terms of wins and losses, we are much better off than when he took over. If he can't get us to that next level next season (winning tournament games) then it'll be time to cut ties.

He didn't just "screw up" one season. He embarrassed LSU basketball in the process. He actually set LSU basketball back this season in a major way. Moving forward, there's no way in hell you're going to get "blue chip" recruits under him, and he's certainly shown he's not capable of being an X's and O's coach. Realistically, to all of those saying "give him another shot", I ask, "what do you honestly see as an expectation for him moving forward and how the hell is he going to achieve those goals?" His one biggest asset, recruiting, just took a MASSIVE hit by taking the most NBA ready prospect since LBJ and potentially costing him the #1 pick. Sure, Simmons didn't help his cause, but this is a major black eye on Jones' resume. You think 6'8'' 240 18 year old SFs with handles and instincts grow on trees? Come on. This roster in the hands of 3/4 the coaches in the NCAA Tourney would likely be a 4 seed or higher.

Exactly. It's a pathetic decision that I think just confirms the fact that LSU doesn't want to contradict their "woe is me" budget narrative by firing a coach. What a fricking joke of an athletic program. It appears that the line of thinking is just to let contracts expire. But then they go and give completely asinine extensions for no reason. Jones got a RAISE and EXTENSION after his second year at LSU. Why?!!! To keep all those big time programs looking for a .500 coach from knocking at his door? Now they can't fire the guy despite 3 years of underachieving basketball because according to LSU, they are on the verge of shutting the doors. Absolutely pathetic!

What's going to be different after next season? Is LSU suddenly going to be flush with cash so that they can go out and hire a $3 mill basketball coach when Jones inevitably slops his way to another mediocre season (at best)? "But hey, he deserves another year!" "I mean, he hasn't done jack shite in 16 years as a head coach, but year 17 is the one!!!!)

This program isn't a rock bottom now. There is a lot that can be salvaged and built upon. Unfortunately, this decision just confirms that things are going to get worse before they get better. "But, but Jones is a great recruiter!!!" "I mean, yes he failed to sign any of the top 5 players in Louisiana in next year's class. Losing them to the likes of UMass, A&M, Baylor and Miss. St. And of course, opposing coaches are going to kill him in living rooms for the colossal failure that was this past season. But buddy, he can recruit."

LSU's basketball program = apathy and incompetence

I am 100% renewing mine. I'd do it no matter who the players are or the coach is. I am LSU through and through

I know you think this means you're a great fan, but it's actually the opposite.

The real way to get the admin's attention is with your money (and attendance). It's the same way with any product you choose to buy. When you blindly keep shelling out the cash for season tickets to an under-performing program, you're actually doing more harm than good because it's essentially a vote in favor of the status quo. The best way to have your voice heard is to withhold your (monetary) support.

Hypothetical: what if LSU's basketball team went 0-30 every year for 5 years under the same coach, and that coach wasn't fired, would you still renew your season tickets?

Why does the idiot not make his own statement.

Also, the Simmons situation was such a cluster frick, Alkeva is blindly letting JJ slide and use that as an excuse

I just dont get why we expect him to do more, with less. Whats the point of keeping him if we already know what the outcome will be?

How will the low post be defended for a whole season with only Victor who desperately needs to get better at not fouling and Reath, who may or may not be a decent player? That's it, 2 questionable big men and a couple of zero help wasted scholarships, Darcy & Elbert sitting on the bench.

Next season will not be pretty no matter who stays.

The fact that LSU must confirm JJ is good for next year speaks volumes in a not so positive way, just saying...

I doubt we even get 5,000 in the PMAC.

17-18 recruiting will be a waste. Every coach will use Johnny's shaky job security against him when recruiting.

And attendance will most likely be ridiculously bad for next seasons home games.

It wont, then people will use that as an excuse for Johnny.

Which makes perfect sense considering, ya know, he is the recruiting guru. But hey, we got plenty of guards and tweeners to run whatever system it is that Johnny thinks he is running. So there's that.

Any surprise this happened? Maneri will be back as well. If Gov. Edwards said that we won't have football we are not going to fire anyone.
