Nothing to do with recruiting except maybe the inability to consistently recruit enough talent aside from the Collis Temole gang.
He had to recruit under the cloud of draconian sanctions. He did have some great success but lost Stromile and Brandon Bass to the NBA after two years and the program was not strong enough to withstand this.

John Brady needs to stay with what he’s doing now. He’s great to listen to on the radio. Even if there are sanctions, there will be plenty of better options to lead this team through these times.

John Brady
I remember him standing by the bench and wiping his mouth with his sleeve and then staring at his sleeve. Disgusting.
Ahhh memories.

You are under estimating how much this shrinks the candidate pool. There was not a long list of applicants when Brady was hired in 1997. There will be even fewer of note this time as there may be even more severe sanctions.

Awesome. After sanctions will he use his one scholarship in a given year on someone who won’t qualify like he did last time?

He was under sanctions that became draconian because of his ineptitude .

Unless the sanctions are rendered soon the pool of coaches who would accept the job will be very limited. No coach with a great resume at a large conference school will want to deal with the issues Brady dealt with. The effects of the sanctions will adversely impact the program for several years even if they only lose scholarships for a couple of years and receive a one to two year tournament ban. If Brady is offered and accepts with the premise its for 3 to 4 years until the program is back on normal footing the search for a quality coach with a longer track record of success will be easier. Brady has enough contacts with coaches around the country and JUCO that he could cobble together a reasonably competitive team. He could come in with no pressure to prove himself or to justify a longer contract and you can rest assured he would have a much better image with the perspective of experience from his first stint. Who knows the Tigers may be a sweet 16 team again in three years.

I doubt John Brady would even consider it. Why give up his easy radio gig to grind it out at his age for what will most definitely be terrible seasons

Coaches coach. He won't be grinding it out as he won't be worried about the long term ramifications of every move hw makes. He would likely have more success than some young coach who comes in without the gravitas Brady has and could deal the negative things the program would be experiencing.

He laughed loudly last week when I suggested this to him….

That's dumb. Brady inherited a moribund program under draconian NCAA sanctions and over a 7 year span won 2 SEC titles, went to to the Final Four and Sweet 16 along with 2 more NCAA appearances 9 would have been 3 more if not for Lloreda injury in 2004), and 3 NIT appearances. He also recruited most of the 2009 SEC championship team for which Trent Johnson presented him with a ring. Some of you mindless people just chant the same stupid things over and over.

He’s is doing a dam good job right where he’s at, old and sitting, old and sitting and talking about LSU b-ball, not coaching LSU b-ball.

I don't think head coach but I thought Wade should've hired him as a analyst or asst coach of developing player personnel. He has a lot of successful experience to offer.

Mulkey would have this team in the sweet 16 at minimum

Brady is 67 years old. He hasn't coached in 6 years and clearly is at peace with not coaching. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to return to the stress of coaching where he routinely looked like this on the sidelines....
