Joe Burrow was unbelieveable, but c'mon. WTH was OU thinking with all those 3-man rushes?

Re watched the highlights and I couldn't believe how many times OU stupidly rushed only 3. I mean..I get that you want to cover down the field, but you give burrow that much time and he will carve your arse up.

Venables is not going to be that stupid. Expecting a lot more blitzes and QB pressure VS Clemson.

Burrow beat blitz after blitz all year long with both his arms and legs.

And also expecting Burrow to carve them up since he's the best at executing under pressure.

People don’t do great blitzing either.

The more they blitz the better. JB is as good as it gets when it comes to beating pressure.

I think they’re gonna play bend don’t break, try and keep us to FGs instead of TDs in the red zone. Wouldn’t be shocked if they drop 7 or 8 a lot.

I've said it before, but I still think rushing 3 is the best strategy. I mean...either way he's gonna carve you up, but this way you force him to make a perfect throw to a cover WR...blitzes don't do shite and he ends up side stepping and finding someone wide open with 20 yds of green in front of them.

Good quarterbacks can handle the blitz.
Great quarterbacks can turn it into their advantage.
We have a great quarterback.

Auburn played us with this approach and I thought that they played it well. I just don't know if the Clemson D line is as good as Auburn's. I haven't watched them play much at all this year.

Football isn't as simple as blitz qb = good results.

It's a double edged sword. You blitz, you're going to get torched

Wouldn’t matter. This offense would carve that Auburn D up if they played again. The past 4 games teams have tried this rush 3 drop 8 nonsense because Auburn seemingly had success. Imo it’s horrible game planning. You play to the strengths of your defense, live with the results, and I think Clemson will do exactly that. Blitzes out the arse to hide some secondary and Dline weaknesses. Otherwise they’d be foolish to only rush 3.

What are Burrow's stats against the blitz?

I asked Devin White's Grandma in the gym today.
Me: 'So, what do you think of Joe Burrow?'
Miss Jackie: 'He's smoooothe.'

Probably that death by a bunch of paper cuts was preferable to giving up a touchdown every time they tried to man up any of the receivers.

The only way to slow this offense down is if you can get pressure very quickly with 3-4 man blitzes consistently. If you try to bring numbers, then you leave your DBs on an island against our receivers and Joe will always find his hot route. Go look at the UT game for evidence of what happens when you send numbers consistently. We burned them with 7 yard routes all game.

Their only chance was to force long drives and play the clock. Didn’t work out.

They probably should have tried something different sooner.

ETA: no pun intended

Joe-Joe carve up a blitzing defense. The idea was rush 3 and rely on the other 8 to contain the pass game. OU couldn't have done that with their starters all on the field. But in theory, it's the right strategy.
