Jimmy Johnson " I had inside information on Burrow" that "he's the best I have ever seen"

NFL and CFL Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson noted to Colin Cowherd a couple of days ago that he had some inside information on Joe Burrow before the draft. Johnson explained that his buddy Norv Turner knows about offenses and had worked with Johnson but also worked out great college quarterbacks in California over the past three or four years such as Darnold, Rosen, Baker Mayfield among others.
It was after working out Burrow that Turner called Johnson to proclaim "he's (Burrow) the best quarterback that I've ever seen", noted that with Joe "every pass is pinpoint accuracy", and he possesses "overwhelming confidence" which "makes everyone around him better." Johnson noted that is why you heard so many teams were trying hard to draft up to get Joe.

Wow
Best he ever seen!? That’s a very bold statement from a guy like Turner.
I just can’t figure out why Ohio state let him go.

Even bigger from a guy like Norv Turner who actually said it. Bad HC but,in his day, an elite QB and offensive guy.

I’m a old white guy in my 50s and I said the EXACT SAME THING!
Seriously. True story. He’s the best I’ve ever seen.
Told some co-workers that and they were like “slow down there brother, that’s some incredible company you’re putting him in”.
That was before the first playoff game. They starting to see it now too.
It’s like Burrow and Montana and Brady.

It happens. At La Tech Terry Bradshaw was a backup to Robertson and moved up to starter only after Robertson quit the team.

I read this thread as “Jimmy Burrow” at first glance and I thought well duh Joe Burrow’s dad thinks he’s the best. And chuckled at Burrow’s dad calling it inside information.

His best trait is his confidence. Confidence is the best performance enhancing drug. And that unbelievable confidence makes guys want to play with him. It makes them believe in him. Most veteran players would probably be a bit leery of fully buying in to a second year QB. But I promise you there is not a guy on the Bengals team that doesn’t 100% believe they have the best QB and leader going into today’s game.
The best never doubt for one second they are the best…even if sometimes from the outside looking in there seems to be little reason for such immense confidence

That was my comparison. Joe Montana football iq and accurate throws. Throw in a little Joe Namath.

After game 4 I said on hear if healthy they can make great run through playoffs. Downvotes rained. He’s a pure d winner. Nothing about him tells you different. Nothing.

They did not see what Burrow was.

Because at that point in time he wasn’t the same player he is today. He wasn’t the same player at LSU in 2018 as he was in 2019. Many people have pointed to the UCF game after he got drilled people develop and get better

Classic rantard response above!
Joe Burrow graduated in 3 years and left on his own as a grad transfer to further his talents. The rest is history.

I was at Tech Fall of '67...Bradshaw would come off the bench in the 2nd half...incredible, I just could not believe he was not at LSU.

Even the current GOAT Tom Brady only started two years in college and was a 6th round pick. Some folks are overlooked and that is what makes them great when they respond.
OSU did miss out, but have you seen that QB room?

He left because he was not going to start. He was able to leave because he had graduated.

If confidence is #1A, then his instinct and ability to read defenses is #1B. Ever notice how Joe exits the huddle and is immediately processing the defensive alignment. He uses every second of the play clock and the ball is hiked with :01 second left. He then moves the LB’s and CB’s with his eyes and knows exactly where to throw the ball. During certain situations when the LB’s bail and turn their heads in pass coverage, Joe knows exactly when to leave the pocket and run for the 1st Dn. Dude is very cerebral
