I'm in no way supporting JBE, but who's going to beat him? Ralph Abraham?
I think some of y'all are severely overestimating the significance of this issue in the mind of a typical JBE supporter and need to start preparing yourselves for a second term for him.

cool. so he affirmed they are tied at the hip.
Of course they are.
F King is one of JBE's biggest toadies for massive tax increases that goes nowhere for the Louisiana public besides growing more government. So much of a toady even some democrats in the statehouse are sick of his shite.
JBE owns F King, lock, stock and barrel.

This.
I just don't see how he wins re-election. Both Abraham and Rispone have a large chunk of support that, split, will result in a runoff with JBE getting more support initially. When runoff time comes, JBE is getting ousted. I don't see how that doesn't happen without some major scandal or gaffe on the republican side.

Is that like the owner of a pro team giving the coach a vote of confidence?

The only reason JBE is in office is that he was able to win enough Vitter hating moderate republicans and Vitter hating moderate democrats that usually vote republican and they've voted republican since JBE won in 2015 for 3 statewide elections in a row.
An approval rating poll came out yesterday and he's less popular than democrat Andrew Cuomo in New York which is a state run by liberals. He's a mediocre 29th out of 50 at 47% with a decent chunk of undecideds.

Nobody is even campaigning yet. Get back to me in September or October.
JBE’s only chance to win against any Republican not named Vitter is to avoid a runoff (when national money starts pouring in), and history shows this to be extremely unlikely for any Democrat in a statewide race.

One republican has more Cash on hand than JBE and the other republican has raised more money than JBE ever did at this point in 2015.
JBE has over $10 million in his campaign fund, while his PAC has another $2 million. Abraham has about $ 1 million. Rispone has loaned his campaign $10 million, he hasn't raised any from other donors. So who's outraised who again? There is a reason Kennedy and Landry decided to sit this one out.

Well he just lost re-election.

1. It's a theory not proven by polling, but if you look at some of the places where we know there are tons of LSU fans, and more than that tons of LSU parents, you find a large portion of "soft Republican" voters. People who'll vote for Trump but not Vitter, for example. Most people don't realize that JBE got 52 percent of the vote in Ascension Parish, and he got 51 percent in Jefferson. Those are the two most prominent moderate-Republican places in the state, arguably, and everybody there has an LSU flag in their yard. So there is definitely a component of LSU being a potential swing issue with a piece of the electorate which can swing an election.
2. JBE pretty much never tells the truth about anything. He's giving King a vote of confidence now, but if this turns into a political liability for him he'll run King off this summer so fast you won't even remember the guy was here. Put zero credence behind today's statement.
3. Before you poo-poo Ralph Abraham or Eddie Rispone as potential contenders keep in mind two things about the history of gubernatorial elections in Louisiana. First, no Democrat has been re-elected governor since 1975, when Edwin Edwards ran amid a runaway boom economy and there was no Republican Party to speak of in the state (now there are 900,000 registered GOP voters and several hundreds of thousands more D's and I's who more or less exclusively vote R). And second, the early favorite very seldom wins gubernatorial elections here. Vitter didn't, Richard Ieyoub didn't, Mary Landrieu didn't, Buddy Roemer didn't, Edwin Edwards didn't in 1987, Louis Lambert didn't. Most of our governors have come out of nowhere to win.

While this is true, I would venture a bet that a LARGE portion of these people are T-shirt fans who couldn't name the President of LSU with a gun to their head, much less tell you anything about what he's done with the university.

I would love to see someone like Eddie Rispone make a race out of this thing, but he's got no name recognition outside of Baton Rouge. And on the flip side, few people south of Alexandria know who Ralph Abraham is. Maybe I'm being too pessimistic, but I've just lost a lot of confidence in the collective wisdom of Louisiana voters over the past several years.
