The problem is Pickett was promised the number BEFORE Daniels won the Heisman. It was shelved for 1 season.

Daniels should come out right now and say this got blown way out of bounds. The person that did this has been fired. That he loves LSU and LSU is a big reason that he has made it to where he is currently. In addition he should make a donation to LSU in the amount of $555,555 in each of the next 3 years.
Now he won't fire mom but this is the literally shooting himself in the foot and he may never recover. Going to cost him lots of endorsement $$ and was just the worst possible thing he could have done. He will not be my fantasy QB this year. lol

Not really. LSU has no real reason to compromise and 99% of the negative attention is on Daniels right now.
There’s no official policy LSU needs to follow. Numbers aren’t retired, jerseys are. Daniels was given some “assurances” by the previous staff, but so was Pickett.

My point was to retire the Jersey of say #7, or even #18 multiple times with the number not being retired, just the named jersey. Retire Daniels Jersey #5 while having the option to later retire Picket #5. .

Yeah this is some revisionist history right here. This is the first time there’s been any friction between JD and LSU. He’s been back for several games, been in the facility in the offseason, helped recruit when the coaches have asked, and has only spoken glowingly of his time here. This shite is hard to come back from though and definitely shows a lack of gratitude on JDs part. Hopefully JD drops it and apologizes to DJ and the program, he’s a cornerstone of our modern history and shouldn’t be forgotten over something this dumb, even if he asked for it.
