Absolutely, and LSU fans would understand and forgive him.

Unfortunate? What’s unfortunate about this?

There is no way out

Unfortunate is a tire blowing out. Unfortunate is a golf ball finding a sprinkler head in the middle of the fairway and taking a bad hop into the trees.
There’s nothing unfortunate about this. This is a cocksucker choosing to behave like a cocksucker.

There is no coming back from this…he and his mom fricked up badly…

There is no way out…
Out all Heisman winners, only 50% have had their Number retired. The rest have had Jersey retired, honored in the stadium & statues.
Daniels would have had Jersey retired in next few years, along with a statue (including burrow) alongside cannon.
Another player wearing #5 doesn’t tarnish his legacy or affect his “NIL”.
However, his actions or mothers 100% tarnished all of it…and calling for Heisman trophy to be removed for football ops is double whammy. It was shortsighted and egotistical

Agree to disagree on what the word means to each of us, then. I'm more saying that it's unfortunate to us, the fans, that he chose to be so childish. Unfortunate that one of our best players in program history is wanting to dissociate entirely over stupid, petty shite.
I think we can at least agree that it's unfortunate that we're all talking about this rather than the 2026 season. Will be a great year regardless of what # Pickett is wearing

I hate backtracking and apologizing, but if he were to open back up communications with LSU and they could come to something agreeable where Pickett is the only player to wear #5 and then it is shelved, that would be the best for both parties. It's a no-win situation for anybody and all it does is hurt everyone's brand. There is no winner in all of this, there's just a slightly easier way out where everyone saves a little face and moves on. If Jayden truly wants to separate himself from LSU, then LSU should acquiesce. Remove any mention of him from LSU and blacklist him completely, that only harms everyone in the process, but go on ahead and call his bluff. He's throwing a tantrum, give him what he wants and move on. Send the message that no player will ever be bigger than the program and he will forever look like the bad guy and somebody will be wearing #5 every year in perpetuity.

“The Heisman Trophy Trust officially mints and awards a total of two identical bronze copies for each winner: one is given directly to the player to keep, and the second copy is presented to the winner’s university or school.”

Yes, reported by Moscona earlier.

Change LSU policy to retire Jersey with player name and not just the number. Lots of retirement jersey ceremonies for warm fuzzies and everybody is happy.
