quote:as others have said he wasn’t starting in the outfield over all 3 returning starters from a championship team. his best chance to crack the lineup was at 1B or DH which most of his Texas starts have been at DH. Costello is the most puzzling because what others have said outside of Pearson he really didn’t have any competition besides maybe Simpson who played some first at high point to battle with for playing time. He may have been home sick but he was definitely the one to keep over Larson, Ryan, and him.
Why couldn't he have played left field this year? Larson and Costello were two guys he needed to keep.

That first AB homer was the worst thing that could have happened to him.
No, its the worse thing that could have happened to the rant, because now they expect a HR per game.
It's similar to Harold Perkins freshman game against Arkansas. The great minds of the rant spent the rest of his time at LSU ragging on him because he couldn't live up to those unrealistic expectations.

Ashton Larson?
Currently has a lower OPS than Zach Yorke and would be 8th in RBI on this LSU team.
We're not missing him.
LSU fans on here overrated him because of that one series he had at Mizzou as a freshman.

The fricking women’s team gets more , what a joke

Never got the hype about most of the transfers. They were decent players at best at much lesser schools. Then some of our “stars” have always been very hit or miss both pitching and hitting.

Yep! Went to 3 of the first 4 games. I never saw this one coming and neither did he!

Make McMuffin coach out the remainder of his deal, take away half the NIL he got and move it over to Alex Box
Not going to get it done with what we got currently

LSU ranks 13th in the SEC in revenue sharing for baseball at $450-500K. Most SEC schools spend over $1M. CJJ said that himself.

Well when other SEC teams are spending 3.5 million on their roster and Jay only barely had 1 million to work with the last offseason,
How does that $1 million compare to the teams that we just lost 5 of 6 to?

He thought he hit a home run on the Portal. So did everyone else as we had the #1 Portal Class. Sadly, as is often the case in Baseball, it doesnt always work out that way. You can never truly know how they will respond to the pressure of playing here in Front of Crowds bigger than they have ever seen before. On Paper this is a Natty Contender. Right now on the field it is a Mid Tier Southland Program!

Pretty sure this is already being done?

It’s not just portal class. Guys like Curiel, ambede, and Milam have been straight arse

Exactly, we can grouse about $$$ and I see many have, but if the above is true - and by the accounts of those who rate such things - it is, then either we have some evaluation issues or performance issues or both.

That’s why I hate off-season hype nowadays, especially in football when teams are replacing half their roster
You never know how that will play out on the field and how teams will gel together

Yeah that’s a fricking joke. No women’s sports should be getting more $ than our baseball program.
Basketball program needs to just disappear it’s a garbage arse sport now anyways. That sport is the new soccer.

Yeah I don’t fall for it in football anymore and Im learning that with baseball. I just gave JJ the benefit of the doubt bc he’s been so successful. But even guys like him miss. You don’t know how these portals kids are until they hit the field.
Having said that the portals guys aren’t the only ones shitting the bed right now.

This statement may very well be true. Explain what happened to the major contributors to last year’s CWS that returned?

Chris Stanfield bro
Larson is a terrible OF, he gets constantly replaced late in games at Texas this year with a defensive focused outfielder instead. Texas promised him some playing time in the OF which is what he wanted, we told him he's a DH/1B at best here which is completely true with a healthy Stanfield.

You're under the impression Jay chased off some of these dudes but I highly doubt he did to guys like Costello or Ryan. These were young dudes with tons of upside and in Ryan's case, he wanted to play SS and we had Milam so it wasnt going to happen this season. Costello who knows why he left, but I doubt it's because Jay wanted him to considering the 1B job was wide open with Jared Jones leaving and Larson leaving wanting nothing to do with 1B.
The problem right now is several guys are vastly underperforming where they should be, flat out. Milam, Arrambide and Dardar all need to step it up. Yorke might just be who he is from a small mid-major in terms of contact with the baseball but he still gets on base over 45% of the time right now which is really good, just need to see more power out of a dude who is 300lbs.
We need Stanfield back because whatever option Jay seems to try in LF doesnt seem to work much. Simpson seems like he might be a decent hitting option there but he's in and out of the lineup so damn much its hard to tell. Reaves is awful, Braun hasnt really impressed much and Harden had 1 big swing but not much outside of that so far, but less playing time for whatever reason compared to those others.
