Not good. Reminiscent of the 2000-2001 season when Lamont Roland went out for the year with an injury, about at the same point during the year, and the high-flying Tigers immediately became a shell, and went on to win just 3 conference games and finish 14-17 overall.

Lunardi had us there before the FSU game and Reed's injury.

Lunardi is mehhh.. teams ceiling in conference WAS .500 maybe plus 1 with a healthy roster. Don't know anymore. SMU is a very important non conference game now.
And man, getting lost in signing day drama is the SEC's absolute TKO of ACC basketball. Crazy.

sucks.

but this lineup is good:

D. Bailey / C. Carter / D. Collins / V. Miller / J. Sears

its the best lineupaccording to the stats over at evanmiya.com, which is a useful site.

LINK

Collins and chest are good. R Miller and fountain will need to step up. should be ok.

LSU was beating up on mostly bad teams when Roland got hurt. We we still believing in the euphoria of the 99-00 season, but the reality is LSU would have struggled in SEC play with him. We didn’t realize it at the time, but that was one of the drops that would become the Brady roller-coaster.

Reed is a tough loss, but I don’t think the roster is so tenuous that they now have “no chance” with him out.

RIP. He put on like 20 pounds of muscle this off-season and has looked good this season prior to injury, will be missed. Hoping for a full recovery and bounce back season 2025-2026

Beating SMU will buy us some credit before conference play. Winning out on the OOC plus an 8-10 record might be enough. 9-9 with that should be a lock.

Roland's injury was almost identical to Jalen Reed, but Roland was writhing in pain immediately in a game @ Alabama. It was brutal to watch, and the Tigers proceeded to lose about 10 games in a row

frick lunardi and his rankings. What they don’t tell you is in the SEC teams rankings there is very little that separates the number 6 team from the number 16 team. Talent wise they are all on par and all those spots are up for grab.we need to focus on the the last 5 OOC games and beat SMU. Hopefully we find a lineup and rotation in the mix since Reed is down. Our first two SEC games are Vandy and Mizzu, I couldn’t ask for a better schedule to start. The possibility of having 1 loss and staring off 2-0 in the sec is 100% there for the taking. If we get to that point things are gonna get really exciting in the Pmac, I’d focus on that stretch, it almost seems like a make or break stretch for us…almost lol

You’re still losing your best player, not ideal.

That is VERY discouraging. I absolutely thought this team had the talent to be a tournament team, but without Reed the chances drop fairly significantly. We still have some talent.....Vyctorious is glorious and better than I or for that matter anyone thought he'd be.

Sears is streaky and all that entails but games when he's hot we'll beat some folks because of it. Chest and Collins are the inside presence we've really been lacking the two previous year....they won't score much other than on dunks and putbacks, but they give us rebounding, defense and toughness.

I think Givens will get better as the year evolves. Reed would compliment all that so well, this hurts.

Reed is the most offensively skilled guy on the roster.
Big blow.

I said in a related post that the team likely needs to reinsert R Miller into the starting lineup. He showed a little bit of life in the FSU game.

Collins should not be over-worked coming off an injury and having missed last year.

I hope they can get some quality time from Green and Boyde.

They'll need to go with a small lineup of Sears, Bailey, Carter, V Miller and one of the bigs a lot. That will require Givens and M Williams to play more, too.

I guess Ward is gone for good?

Reed played 2 minutes against FSU and we won going away. The announcers also said FSU is the second biggest team in the country…and we handled their length pretty well…and matched them in rebounds. We’ll miss him..but shouldnt change our trajectory that much.

Man that sucks. His length, toughness, and ability to get to the basket are really going to be missed this season. Some of the younger players like Chest and Robert Miller are going to have to grow up quick.
