Comments like "if they don't play this game on Saturday, then they are fricking stupid" are more what I am attacking (got this from another thread actually). My point is to try to get people to realize that the decision isn't that simple. Discuss all you want...I would just like to try to add a little intelligence to it.

Tulane's still playing in New Orleans, so why wouldn't LSU play in Baton Rouge?

Storm won't postpone Rutgers-Tulane

15 k people stadium indoors all parking on concrete for starters

130 k on campus....for starters

To me, the real issue here is not going to be power or travel or parking. It's gonna be police.

LSU might have to shell out some extra cash to get a couple of State Police troops from North LA down here to work the game

Well, logistically speaking, you could get all 100 Tulane fans in the parking garage and all 50 visiting Rutgers fans in there too.

LSU logistics is a little more difficult

Seriously though, I think LSU plays Saturday.

I'm 5 minutes from LSU campus, no major damage, electricity coming on around the city by the minute.

GAME ON!

Well I live about 2 miles from campus and we never lost power once. Most people I know scattered between here and campus received no damage. The sun is up and shining right now. The winds and rain abruptly stopped last night when it was projected to last all night.

They also announced that school is back on for tomorrow so they obviously think it's okie dokie for 30,000+ students to come and go through campus on friday. That leaves another whole day to make it even more acceptable.

The police aren't responsible for picking up debris and restoring power. Where are they supposed to be that they can't be at gameday? Even if LSU had to shell out more cash for state troopers I'm sure they would considering how much gameday income they could stand to lose if they move it to Sunday or Monday

You realize thats not even comparable to a game day right?

I think that they will play on Saturday, but comparing 30,000 students to 100,000+ isn't remotely close.

has nothing to do with Any of that at this point. It all has to do with man power. They need to find out if they can pull needed sheriff deputies and state police to work game. Can't if too busy on storm duty. Also the concession stands are typically run by out of area volunteer groups. Need to figure out how many will show and in what numbers. They don't want to hire private security cause they did that after Katrina and had all kind of problems

I hope they move it to Sunday just so I can watch a lot of the games on Saturday, especially Bama vs. Michigan.

Yes I know this. My point is they must feel strongly that campus is functional with no serious damage. The campus doesn't need to be beautiful and immaculate for gameday, as long as they think it's safe. ALlowing students back is a good sign for gameday is all I'm saying.

This is what I've been hearing all day. Bunch of sticks and twigs in the yard. I really don't understand why people have an issue with playing the game, since the police will not be otherwise occupied. Pretty much all of the Metro BR area will have power by tomorrow at the very latest.

I know people working a construction site on campus that say there is absolutely no structural damage, and that power on campus was never even out (maybe they used generator power IDK). Point is, I figured The Doc would accept that he was wrong in the other thread, but instead he's here still claiming that the game shouldn't be played when it is still more than 48 hours away and the storm has well passed.
