what does this mean, and why is it relevant?

It means he has and will do anything to make our team better. He was a great player here and he has been a great coach. He has done whatever is asked of him and he has put his ego aside to help the team. He is more of a Tiger than the vast majority of fans, players and coaches. He has never said one cross word in public. I have met him and he came across as a very nice guy that was confident in his abilities. He is a great representative of LSU and Louisiana

Look, I like and respect E. Seems like a really good guy.

But I was kid in the 70s and remember Ensminger and Woodley at QB.

As much as I respect him, E was neither a great player nor a great coach. Good, perhaps, but not great.

This board is going overboard with their emotions regarding E. And again, I like the guy. But he’s not a great coach.

A lot of people have bashed Slinger the last few years for various reasons. Was it deserved? Maybe, maybe not. However, he's the most honorable coach we've had in the history of this program. He is a true LSU Tiger, through and through. He's put is own ego aside time after time, to do the right thing for this program. He's never once sought the spotlight, or used his position here for leverage into more money or a better job. He never even asked to be OC, but accepted it reluctantly twice because we needed him to be the OC after running off the one that was in place (Cameron & Canada). Both times he went back to work for this program that he loves at a lesser position and never showed anger or disloyalty either time. He's the kind of person you want on this coaching staff, to lead these young men, and teach them how to be a true team player.

Hat's off to you Slinger. We love you, and appreciate what you've done for this school.

THIS.

The reason Slinger isn't coming back is because the man loves LSU SO much that he cannot FATHOM potentially being ousted and held in low esteem by the Tiger faithful. He will do ANYTHING for his team and that includes accepting a lower salary or 'semi-retiring'.

so for all the emotional infants, E’s college stats:

196-434
45.2%
2769 yards
6.4 yap
16 TD
18 INT

Sorry, not great.

Supposedly, Ensminger never wanted to be OC and he is the one who put all the pieces and culture in place with Brady during that great run. I'm not sure LSU fans realize or appreciate how good this dude has been to LSU.

He should probably be consulted on big decisions even if he is an analyst.

When LSU came to the White House, I got to meet coach E, O, rest of the team. As great as O was for giving us the time of day, E was just as great if not better. Held my hand out, told him I was a big fan, he stopped and chatted for a few minutes and was extremely classy. I have a ton of respect for coach E, wish him nothing but success!

Dude coached that CFP game hours after learning his daughter in law died in that plan crash. Gave his heart to LSU. Hell of a guy.

I believe it. I can see him making the call so O didn’t have to.

Honestly I’m fine with this narrative even if it’s not true.

Slinger could go on, no doubt. He is calling it on his terms. That is fantastic. Coached a NC team, Heisman winner, resurrected an Offense Les Miles bridled. Good riddance, Slinger. IMO, perhaps the greatest Tiger ever.
