A source close to the situation tells me if Steve Ensminger wanted to return as #LSU offensive coordinator in 2021, he could have.

good he made the right decision. It was time to step down and take on a less stressful role. Good for E

I believe that. Especially since he didn't want the position to begin with. But he handled it with class. Appreciated the work he put in with the team.

Ensminger took over the position at a bad time for LSU, welcomed change and won a championship.

He's earned the right to make this call.

Zztop1234... That is absolutely right he didn't want to be the OC when he was moved after Canada was let go and I bet he didn't want it when they asked him to be it the next time... It's way to much stress for him especially after last year with his family going thru what they went thru

At this stage in his coaching career he never wanted the grind, pressure and attention that came with being the OC. He happily went back to TE coach after being the interim OC in 2016. He took the job in 2018 out of loyalty to LSU...not because he desperately sought the position. Now, he wants to step away from the grind...essentially a 4 year grind he was always reluctant to accept.

He didn't get fired or demoted. He walking away, telling Ed to find a someone who wants the burden and pressure that comes with being the OC here. He did his tour of duty. Now it is time to step aside on his own terms

I mean sure, we weren’t going to fire him. But I think both parties understood it was time

Doesn’t surprise me!

He didn’t want to be the OC
Struggled in 2018
Admitted he couldn’t modernize the offense, needed help
Admitted he wasn’t comfortable calling plays in empty sets / Bunch sets (Brady), which LSU ran 80% of in 19. Brady called those plays.
Struggles with in game adjustments

I like SE, but he knows he isn’t fit to be the OC.

This. Before Orgeron hired Matt Canada, he offered Ensminger the full time OC job. Steve turned it down.
