Finebaum, back before Saban brought him national syndication, had a retired Big Ten official of 25 years on his show following that AU game.
The official hadn't watched the game live, but was asked to watch a replay of the game for his thoughts.
He told Finebaum if there was ever a game that he felt needed to be investigated, that game was it.

For how much luck Les had he sure did have shite luck at times. It all evened out I guess.
I’ve always said Les had the worst luck I’ve ever seen.
Seriously, what kind of “lucky” breaks went his way??
Pitt over WVU 07 (more than outweighed by ISU over OSU in 11)
UT 13 men on the field and lucky bounce on the fake FG @UF 2010 (more than outweighed by the awful luck of recovering that onside kick and catching a HM short of the end zone @OM 09 creating the clock it disaster and the ridiculous win turned to loss @Auburn that was the last straw in his tenure in BR).
He also had to kick two program defining players in RP and TM off the team shortly before the seasons in which they were to become face of the programs, and lost an OC to illness leading up to a potential NC winning season, and a preseason Heisman contending RB to preseason injury going into his make or break season.
Never mind the numerous shite calls in numerous Auburn and Alabama games over the years, he had the WORST LUCK IN THE HISTORY OF CFB when his predecessor coming back to coach his rival in his own division and establish the greatest dynasty in the history of modern college football.
PLUS beating him in THE GAME OF THE CENTURY on the road then having to face an all time great team again in the BCSNG.
And of course the bad luck of hiring some peasant assistant that had delusions of grandeur and was plotting his demise behind his back even before he got there.
Dude couldn’t catch a break to save his life imo.
Someone please list all the mythical lucky breaks please and thanks

There used to be a Refgate video on youtube. I haven't been able to find it the past few years.

Couldn’t agree more. Meanwhile, Saban loses a game every year and gets to play for Natties regardless of whether he ever wins his own conference. Remember it was Saban who got the break of getting in the title game in 2003 over USC with one loss, then Auburn goes unbeaten in 04 but misses out when the other two teams were the ones involved (USC and OK).

Hester took like 3 steps. We were fricked from the jump that day.

The worst officiated game I’ve seen on any level

We should've been throwing the ball all over the field at this game. They couldn't stop bowe and Davis, and are running game was not very good that day.

I'm not usually in on the ref conspiracy theories, but...
This is a fact.

Didn't Arkansas win the SECW in 2006?

I was 16 and watched that game with my grandpa. Only game I’ve actually shed a tear after because I knew we were better and that there was no way in hell that offense should ever score just 3 points

These kids today just don’t understand but I will NEVER hate another team (including bama) as much as auburn.

Yep. AU my fav rivalry game. Period.
So many bad calls by the refs over the years at Auburn.

Yeah, and Brandon Lefell was held in the endzone on a sure fire touchdown pass.

The penalty reversal on the PI where they called it PI on Auburn and a 1st down, and then to wave if off a minute later was the biggest bullshite ever.
PI is judgment call and can't be reviewed.

Don't get me started on this one, either.

quote:This. One of the best teams to not have won. I believe with a CFP, they would have matched up with UF and took them to the woodshed the second time around. By the end of December that team was crazy good. Two difficult losses to swallow for sure.
Yes he did but it's still a loss. 2006 was a National Championship potential team.

Auburn boosters definitely know how to get ahold of officials before the game.
