I've thought about the screen play...keep running it.

I know the success rate of the screen play is terrible. I believe the best result was a 12 yard pick up against LA Tech. The rest of the screen plays have been total failures or a 2 or 3 yard gain.

The offense had two or three screen plays that ended up in total failure against UGA. I thought at the time, "why TF is E calling these plays? They don't work. We are not skilled enough yet to run screen plays."

But after I've thought about the play a little more a couple of things came to mind:

1. The screens were called at the right times against blitzing defenses.

2. The timing sucks probably because this offensive unit hasn't been together that long and the OL and been reshuffled so much.

But, if we can get the OL settled in and CEH and Brossette can get their timing down the screen play can be very effective.

Hopefully the play is being practiced a lot and we can show some improvement facing MSU because it's definitely a weapon we can use going forward.

We need to practice that play a lot. We look like a middle school team running the screen.

We definitely shouldn't abandon the screen.

Just the execution is absolutely awful. It's a timing play and they need to be practicing it a lot more.

The 1st one probably would have been a TD if they had executed it correctly. It was the right call.

Keep running it if not for the sole fact that it has to keep the defense honest.

I believe CEH and Brosette are not selling the screen hard enough. If you watch the pros the RBs actually attack the chest to the outside shoulder of the defenders and slide off. It's has to be a pretty substantial hit too or the defense won't bite.

Whatever Sean Payton and the Saints staff told the LSU staff about running screens clearly did not get through.

They are the best screen game team in the NFL and have been for 10 years. You would think there was some sort of nugget our staff could have latched onto and instilled into the team.

I've never seen a team so bad at RB screens. It laughable.

I like the calls, we're just not good at them, and its actually a pretty risky pass play when there are 6 defenders that close to the ball.

pass. (unless we can improve VERY quickly)

Whether they are successful or not, running screens slows down the pass rush by a tick.

Perrier Thomas was GOAT at running the screen. Mark Ingram is not far behind. Alvin Kamara is good but not as efficient as Perrier and Mark but I do believe Kamara will be as good or if not better than Ingram very soon.

I believe CEH can eventually run the screen very well for LSU.

We just don't sell the screen very well (at the moment). The guard needs to hold their blocks slightly longer. If they don't then it's a dead give away to everyone on defense. The tackle and RB need to let their blocks slide before the guard as if they are missed blocks. The play requires so much timing but when the timing is on it's a thing of beauty.

It's even more insulting to turn on the Saints and watch them run screen after screen to perfection.

I swear Louisiana football fans are constantly being trolled by the football gods.

Pretty easy to run when you have one of the greatest qb's of all time with an incredible oline and a major threat passing downfield

We don't execute it wwll across the board and CEH and Broussard are not very good at it.
I would like to see Tae Provens run it....

Yeah, it is obviously a different beast altogether, but they still execute screens to perfection.

That definitely helps. But it's a huge part of the Saints offense and they commit to practicing it relentlessly. With LSU it's kind of an afterthought. But we need to keep at it and get better because it's deadly when done right. The Saints probably have 25 different screen plays. If we could get 3 or 4 properly executed, that would be a damn good start.

The Saint's offense is certainly a good offense to understand how the RB screen is run properly but I don't expect that kind of execution from LSU or any college team. LSU has only 20 hours a week to practice. The pros practice 40 plus hours a week.

Right? That playcalling handed Drew Brees the all time yardage record. We should be able to use it at least somewhat effectively.

Yep and I agree with you how frustrating it is to watch them run screens....and Bama has always run them to perfection also
