I Can promise you coach orgeron gives two fricks about people trying to impersonate his voice... probably helps with recruiting in all honesty.

I didn't like it either. Thought it went a little overboard, especially when Huard and the sideline chick got involved. Just seemed petty and unprofessional. People can disagree with that stance all they want, but I thought what started off as something lighthearted got carried away and it started to piss me off.

Miles' downfall was due to poor performance. He recruited well right up to the end.

Miles and Orgeron both court this attention. Don't blame the media. Miles said kooky stuff on purpose. And everytime O is interviewed he waxes on about gumbo and crawfish.

Guys like Urban and saban are always serious. That gives the media no chance to parody.

Chink in their armor

ESPN has no social standing anyway, this should neither offend or not offend... it is nothing. It should be used against them though, to our advantage (presumably monetary). Turn their selective outrage (see above) on them when it's convenient.

Don't mind other coaches doing it. ESPN announcers, somewhat of a different story, but only insofar is to be "offended for gain".

Hey, if that's the standard in the USA today, why not make some hay ourselves. It disgusts me personally. It's even more disgusting to be left out of the industry.

Although OP is indeed a bit of a snowflake, the announcers were definitely not objectively having some fun with someone whom they generally liked.

For an announcer to bring up a coach's prior failures is disrespectful. Every coach out there, even the best, has prior failures. How often are they brought up? Pretty much never.

OK, so it's different for O since he's new and has no other HC history to compare to? For the announcer to characterize his prior coaching experience as a "complete disaster" on national TV is again disrespectful. That may be his personal opinion, but game announcers are always more diplomatic than that during a national broadcast. It was not in good fun. It was definitely disrespectful. Obviously these guys could give a frick next time they run into O what he thinks of them. Disrespect.

Having said that, frick'em. Nothing better than shoving their dick's down their own throats by kicking arse. When ESPN latches onto something, they don't give up too easy (ala Clemsoning), but if O wins enough, they'll eventually have to show respect. Hope O doesn't give them a free pass and makes these guys squirm if he does.

Lol at everyone calling me a snowflake. I started this thread knowing I'd be bashed for it by rantards not looking at the big picture.

As I said in the OP, this isn't about being offended. It's about what the narrative of the program is going to be.

These dumb fricks in the booth and on Sportscenter don't know shite about LSU. They couldn't name more than a few players to save their lives. They go off of a handful of talking points they are breastfed and our coach talking like cookie monster shouldn't be their go to any time they need to fill air time.

I never said O should make a big deal about it publicly. I think he should let it be known off air before interviews or conference calls that he doesn't appreciate it being a focus while he's trying to coach and represent the program.

As someone who has lived out of state for longer than most of you idiots have been online, I can tell you with certainty O's voice isn't going to play on a national level to parents of recruits the way Miles' "Mad Hatter" reputation did before they went off the deep end and had him drinking grass smoothies in Gameday promos.

Parents outside of the Gulf Coast won't think it's charming that they can't understand the coach that they are sending their kids away to play for.

And all of you trying to convince yourselves ESPN just really likes him! cause he's such a great guy are laughable. Yeah, I'm sure Lebatard and Stephen A and those other liberal arts school elitists in Bristol are just dying to spend time shooting the shite and getting to know Orgeron on a personal level.

Again, this is all about narrative, and those of you that don't understand that are just cannon fodder for ESPN to bring down your own ship.

I thought it was funny initially but they dragged it on for so long that it was clear they were just making fun of O. Brock Huard basically just crossed his eyes and started making noises.

This.

I think that's your own bias.

Oregeron has done plenty of recruiting outside LA, MS, and TX. Places called USC and Miami just for two examples. Guess what, has proven time and time again he's pretty damn good at it. So your biased assumption was previously proven wrong; I'm willing to bet that it will be continued to be so in the near future.

Here's what will happen.

This is Coach Eaux on the phone to a recruit. It was typed with Coach Eaux's voice in my head:

quote:

"Hey Playa, did you see that little clip on me ESPN did during the game? What'd you think of that?"

Recruit:
quote:

"I loved it Coach. I though it was funny and some of them were pretty good. Other recruits were texting me to see if I saw it and they all loved it also."

Coach Eaux (in his voice again) on the phone with ESPN:
quote:

"Hey guys, You think you can run that segment during games even when LSU isn't playing?"

Not as a head coach he hasn't.

It's one thing to be the lovable goofy position coach when you've got a Carrol, Erickson, or Miles to come in and close the deal with parents and be the face they are looking at when making the final decision.

Not being able to understand what someone is saying isn't a quirky trait when entrusting your kids future to them.

I'm not saying he won't succeed recruiting out of state in spite of that, but it certainly won't be because of it.

I agree with the OP 100%. What he posted needs to be said.

God bless Louisianians, for their kind nature, and good humor. Being able to laugh at ourselves is the only redeeming feature of this little skit by ESPN.

But we should not rely on our forbearance of others to justify their ridicule. And make no mistake, Louisiana takes more than its fair share of ridicule.

Ask yourself why outsiders/ESPN choose to make fun of our coach, when we are doing what we do best... destroying people on the football field.

The answer is because no matter what, they can't bring themselves to take us seriously. We are always supposed to be the little lovable, weird, swamp people who are quirky and strange - with our funny names, funny accents, and drinking problems. Sure, we're good at football, but to them, we need to remember our place, and let the "big boys" carry the stick. Bama, Michigan, Florida State, Ohio State, USC. Where are the extended "funny" segments about them, DURING their games? Where is the ridicule of Saban, Harbaugh, or Fisher, a mere 10 feet from their turned backs?

Yeah, I know I'm an angry little bastard who's no fun. But I'm not wrong. And neither is the OP. College football is a competitive, nasty environment, and you will be perceived as a clown if you let people portray you that way. That does not bode well for public relations, football recruiting, or academic recruiting. Other people have a vested interest in making us appear fools.

It may not be their direct intention to do so, but that's a trend that is real, and the media sure as hell get sucked down that rabbit hole, again and again.

Supposedly, it's not cool to make fun of people and ethnicities for their accents and mannerisms. That's what ESPN keeps telling us. Except Louisianians. Okay. Got it. Thanks.

So now that he is HC he is unable to sit on a recruit's couch and talk to parents?

All of a sudden he is unable to develop relationships... because his title is different?

His voice hasn't changed, his personality hasn't changed.

His eating habits, alcohol habit, and his fondness for energy drinks, and his title all have changed.

So of that list, the title change will prevent him from doing what he's done in the past that proved successful with both recruits and parents. Got it.

I guess that most feel that Coach O was a joke of a hire so they are making fun of the joke.

Sort of like everybody but LSU fans thought that Miles was a joke of a head coach so they made fun of the joke.

Doesn't bother me, though. Mass media thinks that most of Louisiana is a joke. Big deal.

Yeah, if you posted this in January before the head coach of LSU Ed Orgeron had signed the #7 recruiting class in the nation some idiot may have believed you. If they weren't aware of the very good classes he had at Ole Miss as the head coach.

But since all that has happened they know you are just spouting bullshite now.

The OP is a great example of the inferiority complex that plagues Louisianans, and why LSU fans can be the best yet worst fans in the country.

Get over it. Nobody hates us like you think they do.

I'm saying Alleva should leverage ESPN's "offensive behavior" into home night games.

You don't have to believe it to use it. Ask any lawyer.

Now, just need CBS to do the same.
