No, that wasn't a negative. I has a unique voice and cadence. He knows it and so does everybody else. There's nothing disrespectful about that.

An example of crossing the line was the on air conversation about the coaching search during the 3rd or 4th quarter of the Arkansas game last year. While Guice was setting the school record for rushing yards in a game and we were shellacking Arkansas, the commentators were waxing on about how O wasn't of the caliber to coach LSU. They were openly talking shite about the guy while he was on screen, but not able to defend himself. That was bush league and those commentators deserved to be called out for it (they weren't, though).

O's voice is uniquely gravely, like he's been eating ashtrays. it's not disrespectful to have a little fun about it if you're not also suggesting that there's anything bad about that or his competence.

Relax.

T thought it was funny and good natured, I would be surprised is O minded.....

I wish ESPN would do a caricature of Colin Kaepernick, and stick a microphone in his face, he talks like an idiot.

I'm not particularly thin-skinned and while imitation CAN be the sincerest form of flattery, the OP has it about right, IMO.

Found the 'impersonation' bit to be marginalizing at best and pejorative at worst...it certainly didn'the convey respect given the context...

But bringing opppsing coaches in to mock and parody a man that will be recruiting against many of them just seems unprofessional and lowering him to a caricature.

ESPN did not "bring in" opposing coaches to mock Orgeron. They were already there. This was done the day of the "car wash" experience at ESPN and those were the coaches participating in it. It was pretty juvenile, but ESPN has done a lot worse lately. Instead of making Orgeron look bad in my opinion it made ESPN look foolish and immature.

As a person from south Louisiana we has lived out of state for a while people do tend poke fun at us in a demeaning way. It was a little tacky and not very funny. I agree with some of your points but maybe your opinion would be better received if an entire thread wasn't dedicated to it. But I do agree with you on many points.

Why wouldn't they? His entire campaign to the job was "im just going to hire the best coordinators and sit back and not mess it up"

There are cons to it, yes, but you're ignoring the pros. It's going to magnify LSU even more. It's free publicity. People love and eat that stuff up. Plus it makes the opposition look stupid after O beats their asses.

Joe Paterno was made fun of! Plenty of coaches have been successful and used it to their advantage. What you DON'T want is a boring coach that doesn't possess any attractive traits. Recruits love O. Part of that is because he fully embraces the coonass he is. He's not fake.

I thought it was funny initially but they dragged it on for so long that it was clear they were just making fun of O. Brock Huard basically just crossed his eyes and started making noises.

O is in a no-win situation honestly. Your reaction may be to say, he wins a title, and they will shut up. But honestly, even if he won a NC, they would just talk about the coordinators. Just like they did on College GAMEDAY. However, name a coach that doesn't want to surround themselves with top notch assistants. I hope O doesn't give a shite publicly. It would just make him look weak.

This
No matter what happens, some people on here are going to bash Coach O. Hell, people wanted Les fired and replaced with coaches Les had beat...Spurrier, Meyer, etc.
Coach O wins a NC and somebody will start a thread about how anybody would win with the talent LSU has.
Let the stupid talking heads say what they want. Let's get behind Coach O and enjoy the ride.

I've heard a lot of these announcers and coaches say that Eaux has the best voice in college coaching.

people love the guy. I say embrace it. and i'm sure it's nothing new to him.

people love to hear him talk. people loved miles too but miles did not embrace it. when they started calling him the "mad Hatter" he acted like a butt hurt adolescent and was never the same. imo they were not insulting or mean - they loved that les miles who was a little eccentric.

Geaux Eaux! Hell, who can't watch "Colonel Reb is crying" and not split their sides? it's still damn funny and i'm not embarrassed at all. in fact, i'm waiting for the sequel after a great 1st season at LSU.

he could become a phenom!

O didn't mind doing the Tiger Tongue Twisters, which was an internal video shot that illustrates just how bad his pronunciations are... I'm trying to understand how these other coaches were persuaded to do this without Coach O being in on it already.

I'm also supposing that ESPN did other things while these coaches were in studio for their Car Wash days. We should see other things like this during other games this year, right? Maybe that will calm down those that are sooooo offended by a lame joke?
