If thinking LSU can do better and attract someone who actually has a Division I winning record as a head coach, then I guess that makes me "anti-O."

For those who want Herman, remember that Orgeron was once thought of as a "can't miss" assistant on the rise.

When was this? Orgeron was never even a coordinator before getting a head coaching job. For that matter, he hasn't been one since. Tom Herman has made his name by putting up super offensive numbers at several spots as an offensive coordinator. The last two years he has been running his own program as the head coach. Two seasons, only 3 total losses, 6 straight wins over top 25 opponents while coaching at a mid-major. I'd say Herman's resume is pretty, darn salty.

quote:

So far, the defense is one of the best in the country and the offense has set records in 4/5 games.

So credit the offensive and defensive coordinators who are making this happen.

quote:

He's 4-1 now, and has the team playing better than any Les Miles team in the past 2.5 years

The Miles/Cameron combo was awful. Absolutely criminal what they turned our offense into. Any half decent coach would have been an improvement.

quote:

But through 5 games, he's shown that he can run the program.

Mike Archer went 10-1-1 and finished #5 in the country his first season as head coach at LSU. 5 games is a very small sample size, especially when taking over a team midseason.

OP, I am totally neutral as I just want to win...and keep our core values, so no Petrino types...but I find it sad to read all these threads, ranting & raving against Coach O. Much in the same vein that there were..still is at times...threads & rants against CLM, for mths, even for over a year. And yet, I do wonder how many of these "fans" stay a full 4 quarters in T.S.? It is so easy to hate in today's world, to be negative. With ALL this intensity, passion, why isn't T.S. like it used to be?

Ah but you miss the point of the wording. If you are a college boy I understand. You haven't lived a life long enough to learn your view or the slanted view you have been taught is the only right view. U may not want O but the ones who do are not stupid because they want him. They may be wrong and he may fail but it doesn't make them stupid. Just as the other side of a political viewpoint. That is what is wrong with this country the belief that if you don't believe as me you are stupid and need to shut up. That breeds' extremist.

They may not be stupid. Their reasoning, however, is.

Herman please. More potential value for our dollars. I do not want Miles 2.0 (Fisher)

Not me. I like what I see so far. I mean the guy bleeds Purple and Gold. I like his gravel-voiced tuff-as-nails persona. Besides he trust his assistant coaches, and he has some good ones.

Don't misunderstand the ranting on this board about Coach O. I think most of us are ecstatic that the team responded to him so well, but at the end of the day his resume just isn't as good as Fisher and Herman. I personally think Fisher is a two loss (at least) coach every year and how is that better than Les Miles?

I'm all in for Herman. He's proven he can adapt to the skills and strengths of his players AND continues to win.

O supporters might feel shouted down because they can't answer simple questions, like why should LSU be the proving grounds that O has changed? Or why O did worse than both his predecessor and successor? Or what exactly did O learn from his time as a terrible head coach?

It is a simple question and while I have no favorite as the next HC why should anyone spoon feed you responses that only O can answer.

That being said, the two coaches most wanted by you folks are still in their first tenure on proving grounds.

I agree do not want Fisher. Herman is my first choice after that IDK. I would not be opposed to O with the right OC.

they are winning coaches who have proven they can manage a program at a high level successfully in a non-interim role.

the other guy's full time HC record is worse than Curley Hallman.

This is such a crazy thought process

You hire the head coach for being the head coach. Not on "pairing him with the right OC."

Yep. This kind of thinking is the reason LSU largely underachieved for the first 105 years of the program's history.
