Dwayne Bowe, Jarvis Landry, O'Dell Beckham.

Because Jefferson and Chase have been so good, people forget just how insane Landry and Beckham were.

If you take away the Iowa bowl game that Anthony Jennings was their QB, and extrapolate those 12 prior games over a 15 game season, you get

Landry 96 rec 1464 yards 12.5 TDs
Beckham 71 rec 1400 yards 10 TDs

Also Mett threw less than 25 times per game in that offense because of Les. Burrow threw the ball 35 times per game. Even over 12 games that's an extra 120 pass attempts. Mett averaged 10.4 yards per attempt which would have been an extra 1250 yards. Mett would have been a 4000+ yard 30+ pass TD QB within a better offense.

Yea I think I’d go Jarvis, Odell, DJ Chark.
Guys like Michael Clayton and Josh reed deserve to be in there but I’m less familiar with them than the others. I’ve seen every snap those first 3 have played though.

I think the better question would be, could Burrow have won the 2019 championship with the second string WR group of McMath, Sullivan and Dillon?

This is at least a debatable question, not a random exercise of picking who you think are the best three WRs not named Jefferson, Marshall and Chase in the history of LSU football.

All 3 of the second string got an NFL opportunity, with two being drafted and one signing an UDFA contract.

No, I don't think so, but still I think you could have probably got 1000 out of Dillon, 600-700 out of McMath, and 800 out of Sullivan (pre bulk up to TE). The original trio was insane.

Terrace Marshall missed 3 games and still had 13 TDs. He started off the year with 6 TDs in the first 3 games, and finished the year with 5 TDs in the last 3 games. He also scored on both schools in Alabama. His numbers starting out made you think he would be the #1 WR that year. 4 catches 31 yards 3 TDs, 6 catches 123 yards 1 TD, 6 catches 75 yards 2 TDs, and 3 catches 75 yards before he got hurt. Him getting hurt was the springboard for Chase.

Chase was crazy that year. He missed a game but still finished 1st in the country in yards and TDs that year. The guy had three 220+ yards 2 TD+ games and had a 4 game stretch of at least 140 yards and a TD. I am still blown away by his yards per catch average. I thought Beckham's was insane until Chase had his year.

Jefferson was the go to guy. He was the tough yardage guy. In 10 of the 15 games, he had at least 7 catches. In those 10 games he had 89 catches 1230 and 14 TDs. Hr only had two games where he didn't get at least 5 catches. One was Vandy where he got injured early missing the rest of the game, and Chase went off. The other was the Arkansas game where we blew them out. Chase went off, The TE Moss had 70 yards on 4 catches, and CEH was on demon time. CEH had 190 yards and 3 TDs on 6 carries, and had another 65 yards on 7 catches.

The numbers that season all around were just mind boggling. You wouldn't get those numbers on a NCAA video game simulation.

So, that synergy could not have developed between the second string WRs and Burrow, if as in the hypothetical the first string did not exist? Even if the second string and Burrow spent all of spring ball, the summer of 2019 and fall camp of 2019 working together?

They just aren't as talented. All 3 of those WRs were elite in speed, size, and strength. Jefferson didn't catch a single pass as a true freshman and then his first year starting he got 875 yards and 5 TDs. Marshall barely did anything as freshman and Chase was #3 in receiving, but that was only 300 yards. The next year, both dominated as year one starters.

How hard is it to understand? All 3 of those guys came AFTER the 3 you listed and took their spots.

Even in 2020 Marshall was on pace for a Jamarr Chase like year while McMath had less than 200 yards total and 2 TDs in one less game than Marshall who was averaging 104 yards and 1.5 TDs per game.

Burrow had 4366 yds passing thru the regular season in 2019. You projected 2400-2500 for the 3 second team WRs, lets add another 500 - 600 yards for TEs+RBs = 3000 for the regular season. So 65-70% of the actual results and only slightly better (less than 1%) than the 2018 passing offense. Do you think the scheme change would have that little effect?

Dude, we all l know and witnessed what happened in 2019. The hypothetical being discussed eliminated those 3 players for 2019. The OP basically set up a game of list your 3 favorite WRs not named Jefferson, Chase and Marshall. My query was how would the 2019 team have performed with the 2nd string receivers as the starters from spring through the season.

How hard is that for you to understand? This has nothing to do with Jefferson, Chase or Marshall.

I'll pick 3 that aren't going to be mentioned

Jerel Myers- always liked him. Played on a a couple horrid teams though.

Kevin Faulk- he played wide reciever in the NFL so that counts

David Lafleur- out the big guy out wide. Let burrow hit the hands up high and watch him mow over defensive backs and safeties

Odell and Reed are my top two choices with ease. Then maybe Bowe.

Reed for Jefferson
OBJ for Chase
Clayton for Marshall

We still win.

Crazy that the ‘19 corps is probably equal to the rest of LSU history.

On 2nd thought I’d probably trade Bowe for Clayton.

Bowe after he got his vision fixed was an absolute monster.

I remember running into him at a party at the Commons (is that shite hole even still up and running?) and he had a four horsemen t shirt on and it had him, Buster, Early, and Jamarcus on the shirt. Was the most baller and hilarious shirt I’ve ever seen.
