Yes. The ending to any NASCAR race. 2 hrs of racing then the innevitable accident....long wait for restart....accident....waiting....restart "race" "sprint" to finish.

I haven't watched a race in 3 yrs b/c of this.

Basketball has the worst rules as it relates to fouls at the end of the game of any sport in existence.

It's easily the stupidest game in the entire world of sport on this front.

"Hey look.......I broke the rules which.......somehow advantages ME!!!"

Suggested rule change: In last 3 minutes, after 1st intentional foul by trailing team other team gets option of 2 shots or possession. After 4th, 2 shots and possession.

It’s call strategy. That’s the great thing about our three major team sports. Football, basketball, baseball. Their more strategic than other team sports. In soccer the first team that scores wins over 60 percent of the time. 2-0 at the half, closer to 100 percent. Absolutely nothing wrong with basketball. The real beautiful game.

The Elam Ending is the way to go. People just need the guts to change things.

Here’s how it works: at the first stoppage of play under three (or four for NCAA) minutes, you add a “target score” of 7 points to the leading team’s score. The clock disappears. First team to that score wins. It’s “normal” basketball all the way to the end.

LINK

So if LSU is beating Kentucky 78-74 with 3:15 on the clock and Will Wade calls a time out, the clock disappears and the first team to 85 wins. It would not be impossible for Kentucky to come back, but would be highly probable that LSU would win. No foul-fest at the end. Still plenty of potential for drama and excitement.

Yep. They should just change the game of basketball and give the other team no chance to win in a closely played game in the final minute. Makes perfect sense.
as it stands now, the trailing team can commit a series of penalties to their advantage.

That is stupid

It also makes the games less enjoyable

I think it's fine but sometimes they need to call intentional fouls, because they won't go for the ball like their supposed to.

This is the entirety of the issue. They don’t call intentional fouls in cases where it is obviously an intentional foul.

How is it to their advantage? You are giving the team two free shots. Thats a chance to add two points to a lead with no defensive pressure what so ever.

Most annoying shite ever, just end the game already.
Maybe for non shooting/non-intentional fouls inside 2min a choice between 1+1, or inbounds with min 15secs reset on shot clock would cure it.

I can't understand why so many people are dead set on changing anything. Football is the exact same way. If the game is close in the closing minutes then teams use time outs, and runs plays to stop the clock, in the hopes of giving them a chance to win. It is really no different in any sport. The team trailing needs to do what is needed to give themselves a chance to come back. It is what it is.

Only sport that its not like this in, is baseball, but that's why it is the GOAT sport. Even in baseball though, you have tons of pitching changes in the back end sometimes.

They need to change the rules where fouling in the last 1-2 minutes comes with a much more serious penalty. It is annoying and it is unwatchable. A game that looks like it will last a normal amount of time is suddenly 30 minutes longer. I think regardless of how many time outs a team has used so far, each should get knocked down to just 2, one of those being a 30 second, at the 2 minute mark.

Actually football has altered penalty rules to limit some clock stoppage, with auto run-offs, etc.
I think BB would benefit also from changing some rules where committing penalties is beneficial to the offending team, normally near end of periods.

So you want to make it damn near impossible to come back. Getting, what should be a free 2 points, is plenty of an advantage don't you think?

And football has made minor rules, like the penalty run offs. But the other rules are mainly done BEFORE the final few minutes, like a running clock even on out of bounds plays. The game will still be very long to end a football game if a team has 3 time outs and can go out of bounds to stop the clock.

All fouls by the losing team in last 90 seconds except for shooting fouls are intentional and should be counted as such with ball returned to possession of leading team after the 2 shots.

So there shouldn't be any sort of way for a losing team to try to stage a comeback?

Also, the definition of an intentional foul is not "a foul that is on purpose"... it's a foul where no attempt is made to make a basketball play, so if you reach in for the ball and get the man then you really can't call an intentional foul

FIFY.
I said a choice between 1+1 and inbounds. I see no reason for the situation to be advantageous to the team committing the foul.

C'mon man, that has nothing to do with fouling and is about squeezing in more commercials.
