I've been an ardent supporter. The last three games don't raise my expectations for next year, but I'm not completely against giving him a last year to make the tourney or get the boot. I realize I'm in the minority here.

Yeah I say next year is his last year to make it....BUT he must recruit well too. We need to do better right away, and have a bright future.

I want to keep him.
I think the thing with TJ was always once he gets his players to develop he could do good things with them. While he hasn't shown any of that, he now has some young talented players to actually develop. I think he did ok this year, getting us in a spot to possibly make the tourney, before the utter failure of the last 3 games...
I believe we should give him one more year, if the young guys develop under the system and we have a successful season and make the tourney we can go from there, if not he is done.

I really don't see how people still want to play the patient game with him, other coaches have done bigger things at lesser programs in the time it's taken Trent to field one team that has to play its way in to the fricking NIT.

Don't count your chickens. We don't have the NIT invite in hand just yet.

1242,

what do you mean by TO DEVELOP, specifically? And why did he not develop them in fall practice? what is he waiting for?

I am going to teach you AND Trent how to fricking coach basketball to make a difference, NOW:

Its not that hard, if you comprehend basketball:

offense includes understanding your own body's skeleton, so you can DUPLICATE your form. If the player (and coach) do not understand and PLAY AS IF being able to DUPLICATE the form is the key to success, they will fail.

If you cant make your body do the shot in nearly the same form EVERY frickING TIME, you cannot fine tune your shot.
People who shoot while moving both toward the basket and at another angle rarely make the shot. the math/physics of the shot is very difficult and since you can never duplicate the exact speed and distances, its impossible to practice.
I saw ONE person who could do it on the reg.
ELGIN frickING BAYLOR.
NO ONE ELSE. NOT Dr J. Not MJ.

to be a great shooter you must submit to shooting nearly the same way every single time.

The fact that the hoop will hold two balls at once MUST be taken into account. SOme pathetic people, even famous pro's
NEVER grasp that.

You MUST shoot the ball so it comes DOWN at a slope arriving at the hoop at a high angle. if you approach the hoop from a LOW angle, you must make a perfect shot to get it to go thru the hoop, whereas, you will be forgiven for variations of approach, if you have the ball come DOWN into the hoop from a very steep angle, like a high ARC.

You MUST be able to shoot free throws at 80%.

There are three ways to shoot free throws. Most people only know one. If using the one you already know, you are not shooting 80%, you must learn another one. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Everyone on the team shoots 80% FT or better.
NO EXCEPTIONS. PRACTICE. Learn the form.

Everyone on the team learns to shot a high arc'ing jump hook in the lane.
no exceptions.

The team has to identify the people who can actually hit 3 point shots at the highest percentage on the team and work to give them the shots from the 3 point line. People who cant shoot 40% in practice may not take a 3 point shot in a game.

Its a team sport.
You have to all play defense or its just a drain on the ones that do when one person doesnt.

Oppose every fricking move the opponent attempts. DONT LET THEM frickING BREATH. Cause turnovers in their backcourt.
PRESS ALL THE TIME. EVERYONE PLAYS. EVERYONE WHO PLAYS PLAYS HARD ALL THE TIME. NO EXCEPTIONS.

besides learning how to shoot FTs and jump hooks, they would learn how to pass the ball and the ways to deny the other team to move the ball. That's all. They would play variations of zone press full court, and man to man in half court.

Yes, he gets another year. They won 7 games in conference and he returns all five starters. If he doesn't make the tournament next year, he will have to go. I don't blame him for the previous two years. He inherited a team with 4 seniors and the recruiting class Brady left him. On top of that, in basketball, because of the early signing period, he was to late to the game to bring in any players in his first class and had to settle for what he got. Alleva hired Trent to build a program a certain way and that's the way he's going about it.

If he gets the results that he needs to. Which means continued improvment in terms of wins:
quote:

They won 7 games in conference

But also he needs to show that he can develop HIS players:
quote:

he returns all five starters

The two returning starters from last season seem to have regressed for the most part, though Stringer got back around last year's level at the end of the season.

Alleva hired Trent to build a program a certain way and that's the way he's going about it.

Yeah but someone else could build on what Trent's putting together if he doesn't show that he can, and fast enough.

...
quote:

If he doesn't make the tournament next year, he will have to go.

I don't blame him for the previous two years.

I blame him for 09-10 a bit. I feel we were better than that, especially with Taz and Bo on that team still. 10-11 I can let slide with all those freshman...

I think it's time to move on. What if he does make the tourney next year and doesn't return the next 2 or 3 years? Then we are stuck with him.
