Based on what from backup? They had to take UGA as conference champs. LOL The point being is that the UGA backup ain’t Manning.

Unfortunately, this is a lazy narrative and one that is hard to quantify…
BK just before NIL and transfer portal rules are what they are today..
As a result, legacy SEC and Big 10 teams don’t have the volume of talent they historically enjoyed..
ND has been the beneficiary of this shift.
With that said, Freeman has excelled in this new CFP environment and this has made BK rebuild of LSU that much more challenging..

Here’s something alot of people are missing: BK served under Jack Swarbrick. An AD that publicly said many times “we’re an academic school with a football program. We’re not a football school with an academic program”. BK begged Swarbrick for years to cough up more dough to upgrade facilities, spend in recruiting, spend on coaches, etc. But Swarbrick is gone now and the new AD is more receptive to spending money, which in 2024 is how to build teams year to year.
That’s the exact reason why Kelly left. Notre Dame fans won’t admit it, but it’s the truth.

I'm not talking about if they had to let UGA in the playoff or not. They kept them ranked as the #2 team in the entire country. They didn't drop them at all.

Army was their best win. That's sad right there

The critics of BK always said he won the games he was supposed to at Notre Dame but couldn't beat equal or better teams.
Notre Dame was the favorite vs both Indiana and Georgia, IIRC. That's winning the games you're supposed to.

Firstly, Freeman inherited from Kelly a top notch program that had been to the playoffs three times. Kelly inherited a weak program from Charlie Weiss.
Secondly, NIL and the transfer portal has changed the dynamics of the game dramatically. Notre Dame boosters have far deeper pockets than many SEC programs ( including LSU ). They can now recruit talent there.
Thirdly, how often has a coach shown great success after taking over from a legend, only to fall off the cliff after that. ( Cough..Cough...yaw yaaw yaw yaw football )
Kelly won consistently at Notre Dame, he took over a dumpster fire at LSU ( 35 scholarship players....need I say more ) and immediately went 10-4,10-3,9-4 in the toughest league, under circumstances where our recruiting advantage had all but gone.
Freeman probably is a great coach....but so is Brian Kelly...
Notre Dame fans will tell you otherwise....but see how butt hurt they are still three years after Kelly's leaving.
If this is about Kelly, I will tell you he is the most qualified coach to ever take the LSU HC job. Saban and Miles were up and comers when they took it up with a little about 0.500 record. Bill Arnsparger was 7-28 as an NFL head coach with very little college coaching experience and Charlie McClendon was an assistant with no HC experience.
Also first three years at LSU:
Saban was: 8-5,10-3 and 8-5: 26-13
Miles was 11-2,11-2 and 12-2 ( but Miles inherited a team full of future NFLers ): 34-6
Ed Orgeron: 9-4, 10-3 and 15-0 ( Ed Orgeron also inherited a team half filled by NFLers ) and some of the best assistants in the country. Once they were gone we all knew what happened.
So after three years it was
EdO > Miles > Kelly > Saban
Yah! that is how ridiculous it is....

A one point spread is pretty "equal" no?

This is one of the most gaslighting things ever written on this board. You played UGA with a backup QB who was making his first start. Not having Beck completely neutered UGA's offense. Congrats for beating UGA, but let's not pretend they were the same team.

Indiana as top 10 is debatable.

All this fricking handwringing and bitching and moaning about Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman. Who the frick cares?
Brian Kelly is our coach and he’s a good one. Not perfect but this program is on the right trajectory. I’ll focus on LSU and what Notre Dame does or doesn’t do is irrelevant.

Their defense is better, more disciplined, etc. because of Freeman, who Kelly hired. Their roster is more competitive because of NIL.

Yesterday reminded me how much losing Denbrock hurt us.

Notre Dame is playing at an elite level compared to when Brian Kelly was there, and it's not even close.
This just isn't true. It might be in the future, but not right now. I really like Freeman, by the way.

This version of ND is very disciplined on defense and they play physical as hell
I'm not sure if it's a big difference from Kelly, but that really doesn't matter anymore
Freeman played LB for Jim Tressel at Ohio St. And played a little in the NFL. I have read that he runs extremely physical practices. It surely shows, as ND is much more physical than under Kelly. And they tackle extremely well.
Kelly cut his teeth and learned football at Grand Valley St and Central Michigan. Finesse, patty cake football. It's why his ND teams got steamrolled against top teams.

Kelly had no transferral. Freeman does. ND has 7 seasoned starters this year from the portal. Slow down. ND going home next weekend.

Jmo, but he mostly benefited from a team loaded with Jr’s and Sr’s this year. 15 out of 22 starters are Jr’s and Sr’s.
