Who knows???.......a new year doesn't guarantee a better team.......but......it doesn't mean that they won't be better, either.......

I agree whole heartily Hunter ,I also think that if you err you should err on the positive side , atmosphere is every thing in college ball !

i'm not competing for 'the brilliant thread' award. it's a simple question........killer schedule with the same qb........he's still a big question mark, though a talented athlete and quality person !
I am not wading through five pages of the worthless responses to see if anybody really answered your question. The real advantage LSU has this year is the 38 returning players in the top 44 (two deep chart), the third ranked recruiting class, AND the coincident occurrence of almost all of our SEC opponents entering a significant rebuilding year with most having to replace their QB.
I have said time and time again the trap we all fall in is that we look at LSU's talent pool and set expectations. You have to look at the opponents as well and this is one of those rare years where we are peaking on experience and they are regressing at least some if not a lot.

CharlesLSU, I am as amazed as you are that all the focus is on the QB. With the hire of Aranda, and a second year of coaching the DL by O, will be the biggest improvements. Another year of maturity for the returning DL, and the addition of top talent will allow coach O to rotate his DL, insuring fresh legs late in games. Aranda's D will put more pressure on the opposing QB, which will translate into better DB play. Our D is the key.
Harris will improve. His receivers are more experienced and will be better coached. Depth and experience on the OL will allow our running game to be even better than last year, imho.
Wild card will be a more diverse offense. Cam will loosen up the play calling. Not a lot, but enough to keep opponents D honest.
We will be better.

Experience is huge in college football

While the schedule is tough, we've had tougher in recent years and the schedule has been set up in such a way that we have buffer games or open dates in and around the toughest matchups for the most part including Bama and Ole Piss at home.
IMHO we have significantly upgraded at DC, we have experience returning at most every position and it's reasonable to expect these experienced players to be better for that experience, including the QB.
This all sets up very nicely. Expectations are and should be high for this team and yes, they should be better than last year and the record should definitely reflect that at the end of the season...JMO.

I don't think Aranda is nearly the biggest element. It's the returning talent. I'll make this prediction: the defense will be hugely improved this year, and tRant will bestow ner god status upon Aranda. But the real test will come the following year. That will tell us how much of the 2016 improvement was due to Aranda.
And the year we should use as a barometer is 2012. That was the last year we had LSU talent in the front seven on defense.
I'm glad we have Aranda, but talent is destiny in football

I think talent wise and with returning experience...YES, we are better. Aranda was also an improvement Imo. That being said, I see our returning OC...coupled with Les, still giving us two losses at a minimum. I hope that am wrong.

Unfortunately you will get roasted on this board for asking that question. It is a legitimate question given this teams previous years performance with what was supposedly good talent. Time will tell.

Do some of you guys know that watching LSU football is a choice? It is July and some people are already melting about what could happen this year. If I was this miserable following LSU football before the season I would just fine something better to do with my free time.
LSU will be better. How much? Nobody knows but having an extra year of experience in college football usually leads to being better.

I expect significant improvement in several areas but I saw a pretty big gap between LSU/Bama last Nov.

What blows my mind is that nobody here sees the 800 lb gorilla in the room or in our case big red elephant. Yes, we have a shite-ton of returning talent and a great incoming class but nobody on here is looking at the fact that coupled with our returning talent everybody we play including Bama lost a shite-ton of talent to the draft and graduation. Only one of our SEC opponents returns a starting QB... and that is Ole Miss that lost every lineman on OL and DL.

You have a team which finished ranked, would have been a 10 win season had there been no rainouts. This, despite a brand new starting QB, only one WR with any experience to speak of, and a promising RB that was just coming into his own.
This entire group returns. You have to figure that the QB and WRs will be a lot more comfortable with each other, and that alone should help.
You really don't need a lot of improvement, to go from being "quite a good team" to "damn they're scary".

wow, a bonus......a thread that lasted more than 2 minutes, and relatively few insults. for those with some sense of objectivity, thanks; for the rest, whaddaya think about the team, not about me !
