Honestly, I'm expecting that no one will be able to tackle him.
I can see it now. 4-7 carries per game, 4-7 touchdowns per game. Awarded double hiesman.

If we get the same play we had last year with improved O-line he will look even better.
Should be fun to watch this year.

imo, not as much as him improving as it is to make the opposing d at least have to guess every once in a while

I hope he's a very violent runner and super angry at Bama.
that really doesn't matter. Bama has superior athletes too.
What we need is a viable passing game and unpredictable offensive play-calling. That will loosen up the line of scrimmage and allow more room for LF to run.
Not even Superman could gain much yardage against Bama when they know a run is coming, don't respect the passing game, and stack the box.

I don't think he has peaked. I think he will be stronger and faster (not siginficiantly but still), and I think his vision can improve (not that it isn't good already).
Statistically i see him improving as to total rushing yards and a lot more receiving yards.
I don't think Guice Steal carries from Fournette, so much as a more effective offense will yield a greater total # of plays. Which will yield more rushes to distribute between the clear #1 and #2 back.
We ran 66.6 plays per game last year. Alabama run 75.2, and I don't think that is an unfair offense output to aim for. With 9 more plays a game, we wont have to steal anything from Fournette for Guice to get significant touches. (Williams may be relegated to very situational play)

Statistically, he might not surpass what he did this past season. But he can still be a better player and improve in areas that you can't measure with a stat, like pass blocking, overall IQ of the game, picking up blitzes, etc.
Statistically he will have way more than he did last year. This guy had mostly freshmen and 6'7 240lb TEs blocking for him for half a year. In the Ole Miss game he had a true freshman FB (who played mostly receiving TE in high school), a true freshman guard, a true freshman right tackle getting his first start, and a redshirt freshman guard. Not to mention he had a 240lb true freshman TE aiding in blocking (Moreau).
quote:
And the only reason why I say he might not surpass what he did this past season statistically is because of Guice. He might be our 2nd best offensive weapon on the team behind LF and deserves to get 10+ touches per game. He needs to be on the field a lot, regardless if it's in the backfield with LF, at the slot position, etc. He needs to be on the field. If LF gets the full workload like he did this past season, he will most likely put up the #s he did last season. But you gotta think that Guice gets more touches and eats into that workload more this season as a Soph. And we all hope that Harris takes a step forward and improves as well.
Even if Guice gets 10 touches per game (I expect this as well), that doesn't factor in Fournette averaging a higher ypc for himself. Remember Jeremy Hill going from a 5.3 to a 6.9 just with an improved passing game? Terrance Magee right behind him, averaged 7.3 as a backup (after having one touch as a receiver the year before). The next year with Jennings and green WRs, Magee could only average a measly 5.1 ypc.
Fournette should average over 7 with improved passing, improved blocking and improved vision and patience. Let's say 22 carries per at 7.3 ypc for 13 games. That's nearly 2100 yards on 14 less carries than he had in 12 games last year. People also forget that he had an 87 yard TD called back vs Syracuse, a 59 yarder called back vs Ole Miss, and didn't get to indulge in an FCS cupcake.
Guice will take some carries, but LSU should be running and passing more than they did last year (with the defense improving it should give the offense more chances for plays).
I'll make a bold statement and say he pushes more towards 2500+ rush yards in a 15 game national championship season.
ETA: Getting Harris more involved in the run (think more option run plays), and having better designed running plays can help him as well. For the most part LSU has zero deception in their running, leaving the OL having to play heads up and the RB having to do all the extra work.
There are tons of things that can be improved to make Fournette run better and more efficent that we weren't able to do last year. He doesn't have to do it alone.

I actually kind of anticipate a lower total yardage for Buga this season. A combination of an improved passing attack and Guice maturing.

Progressed as a player yes
But with Guice most likely getting a lot more carries/ playing time, it will be hard for Fournette to win the Heisman. IMO

The big improvement I expect to see in his numbers this year can only come from us having a legitimate passing threat which would give him more space to run.
I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't match last season's numbers. Doesn't mean he's worse though.
To set it up for him to have more space to run, LSU has to throw it more. So whatever extra yards he gets cancels out with less carries.

How realistic is it to expect him to get faster or stronger, he had to be near his peak last year.
I don't expect him to get better this year but I do expect the team around him to be better and specifically the passing game. A credible passing threat will only help LF to see better running lanes and holes.

Yes, of course. Hopefully we'll be more balanced and the results vs stats show it.
Posted on 6/1/16 at 5:49 pm to tigbit
I expect him to show up in November this year so yes he can get better.

He will be older and stronger and his opponents will be younger and weaker

If you also throw in that we'll most likely have an improved defense that will create turnovers and three-and-outs, it could be more special for Fournette and our offense.

LF7 rushing yards in 2015- 1,953
2016 I'm predicting 2,007 yards rushing for ol' Buga.
He's gonna join the 2k club.

And please, no matter how great a back is, no one is taking a 70-yarder to the house in 10 freaking games.
Why did 3 idiots down vote this?
I'd be curious to know what running back in history has had 10 games with a 70 yarder. The answer, almost certainly, is none.
If LF takes a 70 yarder to the house in 10 games next year, I'll accept a permanent ban, and march stark naked down Peachtree Street in broad daylight.
The blind homerism on this board is so frustrating.

No. He was great last year, and the oline was good too.
If I'm not mistaken his numbers took a toll when we had to shuffle the online bc of injuries...
