Is it possible for a 3-loss team Playoffs?

Looking at LSU's brutal schedule, not just November but October as well when you factor in injuries and the brutal parity in the SEC, would it be possible for LSU to make the playoffs with 3 losses? Granted the 2 additional losses would have to be a TD or less loss?

with how brutal the SEC scheduling is after adding an extra league game, they'd have to consider it
bama got in with 3 last year although the 3rd was the sec championship which they got smashed in

Eventually a three-loss non-conference champ will get in. Not sure when it happens, but it will eventually.

Didn't they leave Texas out last year at 9-3? That's why the SEC screwed the SEC going to a 9 team SEC schedule. High risk, with zero reward for the harder schedule.

Of course. A 2 loss LSU made it to the BCS championship game in 2007. A 3 loss team will make a 12 team playoff at some point.

I believe that is why Sankey is now changing his tune on a 24 team playoff. He is fixing one mistake with another mistake

A 3-Loss SEC team getting in will come down to brand and what the Big 10's 4th team's SOS looks like.
We have the easiest October out of all the real potential SEC playoff contenders... with a BYE at the end.
As far as November, its going to take some "Chambliss Like" QB play to come in Baton Rouge and put up points against this defense.
Get out of October without anymore serious injuries and let Kiffin/Weis cook up a gameplan for two weeks before Bama.

It’s inevitable at some point. A 9-3 team with all good losses and enough good wins will eventually make a strong enough case.

You can't use last year as a comparison to this year. 9 game conference schedule will (or at least should) change everything. A 9-3 SEC team will get in sooner rather than later.

Sure you can....look at the replies in this thread. Last year 3 loss Bama was put in (after their 3rd loss in SEC CG) and 3 loss TX was left out.
So the question is does a 3 loss SEC team, who didn't play in the SEC CG get in? I would say yes, it's likely coming.

There are too many teams to choose from. We didn’t think Florida, Mississippi state would be 4-0, there are other power 4 teams undefeated and record matters more than strength of schedule.
Right now Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Florida are ahead of us in the pecking order. So is Ole Miss.

Depends on what the rest of the teams end up at. 9-3 regular season hasn't made it before, but with a 9 game conference schedule that means half the league is guaranteed an extra loss than years past. Alabama was the first team out in 2024 at 9-3 with an 8 game SEC schedule, so I think a 9-3 SEC team will make it in sooner or later with a 9 game SEC schedule especially with this supposed strength of schedule metric the CFP is using this year to evaluate teams.
I think it comes down to how many 10-2 or better teams the SEC has by year end. If there ends up being only like two 10-2 teams or better in the SEC, some 9-3 teams will get in. If there's five 10-2 or better teams like last year, then I doubt it.

Possible but they aren't allowing 6 SEC teams to get in out of the 12 total
