This current generation and pretty much all of those that didn’t see CJ play will never appreciate just how great of a player he was, especially for a Freshman.

If Jackson played in today’s era, some of you would be surprised how much better he would have been. He didn’t have the advantage of getting cheap fouls for being breathed on like today’s players.

Cam Thomas has been exceptional so far. The kid is an amazing player, but let’s see if he can sustain it. Tonight’s game he had 32 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Jackson averaged 30.2 pts, 3.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists on the entire season.

He did that averaging only 6.75 3pt attempts per game. Thomas took 11 3s tonight and is averaging over 8 per game. He is averaging 24.1 ppg, 1.7 apg and 2.9 rpg. Not only is he not scoring better than Jackson, but he’s not doing more for the team outside of his scoring than Chris did.

Again, he looks to be a great scorer and one we should appreciate as hopefully an LSU great, but let’s stop forgetting the reality of some of the players at LSU that came before him and especially those some of you never saw.

Makes you wonder if he was really that good, or did he just look good against freshman competition.

My only gripe about Cam Thomas is his shot selection. There are times where he takes some dumb arse shots instead of working the ball around for a good shot.

I have said repeatedly that only 2 schools would have a PRAYER to beat LSU's all-time team: UNC & UCLA.

CJ invented the dribble between the legs and shoot the 3 all in one motion move. Nobody did it before him, and now it's a standard part of any shooter's repertoire.

Fact: Cam Thomas is playing better as a freshman than Pistol Pete did.

Pete: “Thanks a lot, Dad.”

Hey guess what, he did just fine after playing against freshman competition to the tune of 44.2ppg and set NCAA records in 3 years that will never be broken in 4.

The point I was making was that we’d need him and Gray down the road when we face a true inside presence to protect the rim for a few minutes. I think tonight it showed that Wade was holding some stuff back but even more so it showed how he’s going to attempt to offset our lack of size. Our 6-5 to 6-7 defensive guys like Manning, Wilkerson and Leblanc were like a swarm of mosquitoes anytime an inside player for ATM had the ball near the paint and created all kinds of problems inside. That’s something we haven’t seen really at all until tonight and hopefully it’s something we can keep doing. I still think at some point we’re going to need a big body to matchup against guys like Prince from Kentucky even if it’s just for a few minutes here and there.

Sure, but he was no longer a freshman. He very much could have gotten better as his college career progressed— similar to one Michael Jordan. We’re talking about strictly freshman here.

I suppose that would apply to Jim Brown and Gayle Sayers as well?

A lot of factors change from generation to generation.
Chris Jackson was awesome. So was Petit, Shaq, and Simmons. Chris, Shaq, Stanley Roberts still couldn't get out of the Regional.

Nobody will be as good as a freshman at LSU as Chris Jackson. You young guys really shouldn’t try to make these kinds of ridiculous statements.

It's a lot closer than people are giving Cam Thomas credit.
Very similar shooting percentages with Chris Jackson shooting an extra 6 times per game on average.

There is a big difference in assists, but in terms of pure scoring, Cam Thomas has a chance to be the best.

It certainly DOES apply to Sayers and Brown. They played against inferior competition as compared to the last 25-30 years in the NFL. Now to be fair, had they been born in the 80s or 90s, they surely would have eaten and trained differently, and could very well have still dominated as they did against the honkies.

We all need to tap the brakes on this kid. The SEC competition will review film and figure out how to stop him. He good, but he isn't a physical freak like Shaq or Simmons and doesn't have the quickness or ball skills of CJ. He is as good of a spot up shooter as we've had here, but I believe that teams will take the three ball away from him and we'll see how he does when he has to come off the screens more and penetrate and dish. We need to see how he adjusts.

I expect his scoring average to go down a little as teams attempt to take away the spot up jumper.

Dial that back some, let's don't judge the rest of his career by the Aggie defense. Let's see if he can take his show on the road first. He's very good, but we've had other very good players.

Can is scoring 6 less points while taking more threes. Again, he has only exceeding Jackson’s average ppg once this season and it was by two points.

Averaging over 30 points while shooting less threes is a big deal. CJ was as god of a 3 point shooter but just shot less of them. In this era CJ is scoring even more.

Again, this is t a knock on Thomas, but you are trying to say he will be a better scorer than one of the best ever in all of college basketball much less LSU.

Let’s wait a bit before claiming he’s better.
