There has to be an off-season commitment to defense.

But there is nothing he could do next year to launch himself into Top-15 category.

There were 3 non-Freshman/non-foreign players taken in the top 15 last year, 6 in 2014, 9 in 2013, 9 in 2012, and 8 in 2011. That's 35/75 (47%) being non-freshman. During that same 5 year period there were 31 freshman in the top 15 picks (41%). So as the facts show, you're clearly right. He has no chance of being a lottery pick and should leave now.

Hield is a Senior. You indicated that this year was the ONLY year Blakeney could have been a lottery pick because nobody understands the way the NBA works other than you. Buddy Hield begs to differ. That's all.

Hield was all-conference last year. If he gets drafted at the end of the lottery, it wouldn't nearly be the one year jump that Blakeney would have to make. IMO, Blakeney leaves now and someone takes a flier on him at the end of the 1st / beginning of the 2nd.

Its more than that, its a culture. With our style of play and the type of guys he has continued continue to recuit, it will be very difficult.

He might not be able to make a lottery pick next year....Cauley-Stein went in his Junior year and used his time to polish his game to become lottery caliber. Blakeney could do the same thing. Although most lottery picks are one and dones, there is plenty of precedent for a player developing 1st round skills after a few years in college. I'm a huge fan of Blakeney and would love to see him stay. Shoot...his improvement this year alone was pretty impressive. I suspect he just keeps getting better.

2015: Kaminsky, Cauley-Stein, Payne
2014: Smart, Stauskas, Payton, McDermott, Payne, Warren
2013: Oladipo, Zeller, Len, KCP, Burke, McCollum, Olynyk,

Thats the last three years, so as you can see almost all of them except for two are bigs or point guards, he is no KCP. He is neither. Again he is a 6'5 SG and honestly is not a cant miss scorer. He also does not have the glowing intangibles a player like Hield has.

WCS and Blakeney

I agree though he keeps getting better and better. But again the issue is the way the league and draft keep turning into.

Patterson to casual fans is not flashy but that is his game. He would have been the best option at point guard this year, my biggest complaint.

I think Jalyn is always underestimated. IMO he's our most consistent and best defender - knows where to be, great help defence.

His game slumped a bit in the past few games and he made some uncharacteristic blunders. Not sure why, but part of whatever personnel problem is going on, I suppose. Seems all of our players were negatively affected.

He'll be good for us next year.

I was a big JP fan last year. He hit some clutch 3's. This year has been a huge disappointment. Outside of a few isolated instances of hitting some shots, his game was not improved at all. Defensively? Maybe a little. His game seemed totally out of whack to me.

Add TQ and JG to the mix of players who took a step back and it's obvious we had big problems this season.

Not sure why TQ is left out of list of potential starters for next year with the thought that he's leaving. Leaving for where? Dude has nowhere to go.

not a big which really hurts, because athletic 6'5 guards that are streaky shooters are not in huge demand.

He isn't just athletic, he will be elite with his combine numbers. And he isn't just a shooter, he finishes above the rim, rebounds decently, and plays hard defense. And he has a beautiful shot, with some actual coaching he will be a dynamic NBA player.

I think Patterson's game was hurt by such little playing time and the offense having no rhythm.

He never really had a chance this year to get in a groove. He plays solid defense, protects the ball and makes good passes. I really hope he can get into a shooting rhythm because that would be huge for us.

Actually it's the opposite. You have no clue. It's a weak draft and he has a really high ceiling.
