How can you ignore the resume?
for one bad year at clemson?
people are overreacting to his resume. He has coach with amazing coaches, he is a great recruiter. People are writting him off as a bad hire because he had one bad year at clemson.

They overreact because they aren't exactly on loan from NASA. They are all just sheep.

Two bad years and his best defenses were never as good as our worst under Chavis. He may do okay but we certainly took a step back at the position.

They might not be upset but I can't see why anyone would be happy.

I'm not happy with the hire.
Having said that, too many people are confusing the poor search effort as a guarantee that Steele won't do well here.
LSU bring a LOT to the table. And, it might be enough to maintain the level we were at. I think it's unlikely that we maintain our level...but it's not impossible.

I think the pissing and moaning is somewhat lazy and group think.
The announcement was disappointing, but I'll wait until he coaches here before I declare him a failure.

Ditto, but if this hire doesn't pan out, I will be pissed!

Right, so isn't it absofrickinglutely amazing that he got a job on the staff of, arguably, one of the greatest college football coaches of all time?
I mean, he must really suck for Saban to want him...
Yes, he sucked at Baylor, but I guess it's a good thing that he's not the head coach.

My expectations are low.
So I guess even an average performance will be a pleasant surprise. I suspect that I am not alone.
This is the genius of Les.

quote:. This. It's not that complicated. It's really really very easy to figure out why so many (most) fans are feel very let down with this hire, especially given all the amazing names being rumored as the candidates. Actually it wasn't just rumors but actual credible sources that suggested the hire would either be a very well respected top notch proven college DC, even an nfl DC. Then look who we get.
I don't hate it, but I hate that it has come to this. Highly respected DC leaves us for a division rival and Miles / Aleva dick around a couple weeks to hire a LB coach with a suspect reputation.

The word around Bama is Saban actually holds him into higher regard than Smart as his DC. The problem is you can't demote. I'm not sure I believe it. That said, it's not a good DC hire. Coaches have a circle and even when a guy is not great they're going to keep their guys around. His history does not lie. He's an utter failure and you can't claim he lacked talent at Clemson who threw hookers through the window recruiting. His defenses were horrible there and he had plenty of talent to work with.
He's a great recruiter but a mediocre/bad DC. If he was so good he'd be somewhere else as a DC and not a goddamn LB coach. We need a coach first not a recruiter. Alleva needs to go.

The whole argument that he was on great staffs is kinda dumb. Yes, I don't think anyone would argue that he's a good recruiter and better than average LB coach.
As a HC and DC he's been a major failure. It's a hire that reeks of desperation.
When SEC rivals hire Muschamp and steal your DC, and you respond with a failed DC and position coach - not even a young up and comer - criticism is going to be had and it's very warranted.
This could be the end of Miles and that's a shame but his stubbornness and Aleva led to this moment.

Because his defense at Clemson had 70 points hung on them in a BCS bowl in one of the worst performances in the history of major college football?

I'm sure Steele is just tickled about being handed the keys to a Ferrari.

He was demoted at Bama after his first year at DC back in 07 I think
