Has everyone forgotten Canada's history? He'll win one week with a run heavy offense (because that's the game plan versus the team that week) then win the next with a completely different offensive attack.
He obviously saw something in his studying of BYU that told him a run-heavy attack would secure victory and he was right. Who know's what next week's gameplan holds? It really depends on the opponent.

Only had 7 false start and motion penalties in the first half. Well oiled machine.

Last night, our red zone offense was putrid; the play calling was poor and the execution worse.
You need to stop watching football if you really believe this...
So you think 4 trips to the red zone with only 6 points to show for it is not putrid.

And the question still remains, can we put 40 or 50 points on the board ?

Do you think the score would have been 27-0 under the former coach?
We did presnap motion but ran up the middle almost every down. Aranda does defense, and Etling threw a bunch of quick sideline passes (a couple nice deepshots). There really wasn't much of a difference, but okay let's act like LSU looked totally different.
You guys need to chill out and realize LSU did what it should have done last night. Canada's offense really won't be witnessed until SEC play, what you saw yesterday was basic as frick.

Well there you go you don't know the point to begin with. The point is to win the game and if we absolutely needed TDs in every situation I'm sure the play calling would've reflected that. Canada isn't calling plays based on what you want to see he's trying to win a game and if that means taking three instead of putting the ball even in the slightest of jeopardy then that's what he'll do.

So basically you like commenting on football without having any knowledge whatsoever on the subject?

333 downvotes and climbing.

I would explain this situation to the OP but it would be a waste of my time trying to be rational with a complete dumbass.
So I won't.
So I won't.

You must watch a lot of CNN.....

The takeaway last night should be that Etling was consistently put in a good situation and consistently delivered. That is by far the most promising part of the night.
Reminded me of a UAT qb under Saban. Efficient and not flashy. No silly mistakes.
Disciplined.

Well shite. If you are right MadKing we better find a HC that knows what the f he is doing.
"We're going to get better in the red zone," Orgeron said. "Should have made a couple of more touchdowns in the red zone. We know that. We're going to fix it."

Why are we giving the new coaches such a big break?

No, that is how it should be. Pitching fits at coaches shows how immature our fans can be.....and you are asking for more if it. The play calls were fine. As they almost always are no matter who is coaching

Game 1 for us, against a decent quality (level, if not actually good) opponent who'd played a game.
I really pleased and satisfied, for those circumstances.
Base offense appears to work; we moved well. We knew Guice would be ok, the question was how the rest would work. Etling looked to have good timing with the WRs, and not just Chark; Dillon made a couple good catches, etc. The jet sweep as a viable play was in evidence, I think that will work too.
In all, the offense looks like it will be in rhythm this season.
As for the red zone, again, game 1. Some plays didn't work against BYU's 300 lb D line. Some passes didn't break clean quickly. Nothing to panic over, just have to keep working at it.
Bigger concern for me, honestly, is how heavily we relied on Guice the first couple of drives. Maybe that was the plan, but in a close game, we can't run him 40 times. I would have liked more diversity early.
The way it all played out, it seemed like we either knew we'd win without contest (as we did), or we went in as a scrimmage no matter what.

All of these posters who think pre-snap motion is just some show and think all runs over a certain gap are the same amuse the frick out of me.

We should have easily scored 45. Just pointing out the truth.
And this is where you are wrong wrong wrong. We COULD have scored 45, not should.
If LSU would have gained anything without losing something then LSU WOULD have scored 45. But it wasn't needed.
No, I am not saying the coaches purposely held the score down. What they did was run what was working which kept the ball out of BYU's hands and doesn't show our fancy plays that other teams game practice stopping.
People complain when we got stuffed at the goal line on 4th down as being a bad play call. That just shows stupidity of the complainer. BYU line was over matched all game by our line. We have a 4th and short. Easiest play to execute that they haven't been able to stop all night was a straight up the gut run.
77 missed his block badly which was totally uncharacteristic for the night. Basically it was a freak accident that stopped us from scoring. If you really really want to score badly in that situation against BYU you run that exact play every time.

Also amusing are the guys crowing over the offense because it scored 27 points, seven of which was handed to it by the BYU punter, and we had lots of motion on a few plays while playing a bad football team.
Was the game on the whole well played by LSU? Yes. Was it a good start by our new staff Yes. Does it say anything about how we will do in the SEC? No.
We beat a bad team. LSU should beat bad teams. We should crush the next team we play. Why don't we wait until we at lease beat a mediocre SEC before we start making New Year Day bowl game hotels.
And before the clowns start with the you hate O BS, I am on record that we go 10-2 in the regular season.
