Do the captains even know what side is up from the start...lol

Diaconis found, from a smaller ideal number of coin tosses recorded and analyzed, that coins land on the same side they were tossed from around 51 percent of the time.

So half the time it works all the time?
Interdasting:gif
Flipping a coin showing heads lands on heads 51% of the time. Unbelievable. Who would have guessed it?

So it's never landed on an edge?
I find that hard to believe

Kelly needs to stop asking for the ball first

So let's say that this comes in to play a total of 4 times this year (we have four true road games).
.508 * 4 = 2.032
So just calling heads four times in a row gives you an expected outcome of 2 wins and 2 losses.
Seeing what it's starting on and calling that four times in a row gives you an expected outcome of... 2 wins and 2 losses.
You'd have to have 30+ opportunities to call the coin flip before this difference would matter, and even then you may get 16 wins and 14 losses.

It's 2023
Shouldn't we let the coin choose what side is heads or tails

Don’t care…. ALWAYS defer if you win the toss
More info, more data, more knowledge of what type of game it is, 3rd qtr more important than 1st, etc etc etc
And specifically for this LSU team, we don’t start fast anyway, so why waste a possession when we know it’s probably gonna be a slow start again
Whether I’m behind at the half or ahead at the half…. I want the ball to start the second half. I don’t give a shite who has the ball to start the game.

Yup. Drives me up a wall when we don't defer.

Put your best unit on the field first. Why the hell would we put our D out there knowing we’ll probably give up a score?
Take the ball, score, and take the momentum.

Because we have been slow starters on offense more often than not. Rather have more possessions in second half of games than first half if given the choice.

With heads, you get head after the game
Posted on 10/12/23 at 9:38 pm to atltiger6487
Because then the other team gets it after the half moron

Electing to receive Saturday was a stupid, stupid decision by the Tigers. And this team predictably started with a three-&-out. I fealt a real spasm of quease when that happened
