How can anyone explain/ justify that many no shows for big games? Makes absolutely no sense. What ticks me off is I drove all the way from Orlando in '09 for the UF game and could find tix anywhere and then I see there were this's my no shows! Is this a problem unique to LSU or does it happen elsewhere? Somehow I doubt it happens at places like Bryant Denny or Autzen or Nebraska.

XYC, inc. buys blocks of tickets and charges them to entertainment for clients/customers/guests, etc. The company I worked for previously before my current one, had 20 seats spread out over different sections. No customers to entertain, walking around the office asking people if they want tickets and everybody says no for whatever reason. The 4 seats to my right and left in North endzone are this way. I never have the same people sitting on either side of me. Sometimes I'll see people again, but not steady over 20 something years, unlike me or the people behind me or in front of me.

That's what happens.

The amazing thing to me is that people don't at least put their tickets on the ticket exchange or something. Money is money.

i always have friends who love the tickets. my seats are never empty.

Sorry...the real culprit is TV. Once upon a time, believe it or not, there was no TV, no playbacks, no hour after hour of ESPN. If you wanted to see the Tigers play, you had to go to the stadium.

It's not a big deal. You paid for them after all. I would hope that any season ticket holder who is not going to a game would make the effort to give (or at the very least sell) their tickets though, so that butts would be in seats to cheer the team on in their absence.

I go for the game, but it's also about the pre-game and post-game fun. Its an all day event with thousands of Tiger fans. You can't get that from HD-TV.

I think if players are out their busting their asses, it's the duty of the fans to be out their cheering them on. Whenever I want to leave because we are losing or it's raining, I think about how much they probably don't want to be out there either. And if people have a ticket and don't stay for the whole game, I don't think they have any business complaining about player intensity or whatever. It's like having the right to vote, not voting, and then complaining about the president.

"dont feel like standing in the rain for 3 or 4 hours, guess what... no show"

why not at worst just give the tickets away?

I agree, corporations are buying the TAF tickets that come open every yr, as opposed to Joe Fan. And those corporations are giving them to clients who, to a large extent, do not have the hard core loyalty to LSU football that most real fans do. The box seat over an exit in my section has belonged to Exxon for yrs & it is always half full, even with the great view it provides, having no one in front of you. The reason LSU is expanding TS is simple: the new box suites will pay for everything else & the extra seats are just gravy. But take a look into almost any box suite during any game: half empty or filled with partyers as opposed to fans. Keep this up for a long period of time & LSU is losing a ton of hard core football fans. But as an aside, for those who choose to exercise their right to not show up or leave at half, don't come on here & beat your chest about how TS is the most intimidating stadium in college football. That is an old myth now.

Not just the suites. Sections of seats in the stadium too. And before some jackass comes on and says, "yeah it really sucks to be winning and have money coming in..." - I'm just explaining what the empty seats are. Not making this out to be class warfare or some bullshite liberal slant against corporations.

"If the paid attendance is there, why would this be the case?"

They would just increase the TAF donation amounts.

I'll ask this again, is this unique to LSU and Tiger Stadium or do other schools have this issue? I'm just curious.

I'd like to see how actual attendance/paid attendance ratios compare for other schools around the country. I wouldn't be surprised if it was worse at LSU. I say that because I think we are among the worst at leaving games early and there is a correlation imho. When your fans can't seem to wait to get out of the stadium so cosistently like ours it would stand to reason that many just don't ever come.

Amusingly, the article starts off with this gem:
