About the only football players at LSU who got NIL deals this year either did not play in a game or only played a few games and are not returning next year

Many of them signed with Yoke Gaming, where they got paid to play video games with people.

Brian Thomas Jr. was on a Neighbor's FCU commercial.

The only big/flashy ones were Stingley/Walk-Ons and Brennan/Smoothie King. And I'm not sure that anything come out of those.

I’ll tell you this, that Quinn Ewers deal made us all more than a little apprehensive about giving deals out to high school kids who don’t commit to the school first.

We are regional. If we invest in a kid who signs the deal, takes our money then runs back to their home state because of playing time as a true freshman, then I look stupid for setting up the deal.

I was thinking recently that the NIL contracts cannot be linked to the requirement to play for their school. I would bet a dollar to a doughnut that half of aTm's class transfers out next yr...

The number of college players going to the NFL is microscopic. If you're only looking to have future NFL players representing you, then you aren't going to be giving out many NIL deals.

Well, to be fair, Bama wouldn't be in the college playoff if UGA didn't trout out a 1985 offense with a game manager QB that can't on a whim have a 350+ yard passing day. I knew they were screwed the moment the broadcast put their QB stats on the screen.

No way, no how, unless Bama just gave the football away 2-3 times. Meanwhile, Bama over the past couple of years has evolved to the point where they can throw the football for 400+ yards, sling it all over the field. You can't have game manager QB offenses against that type of firepower.

Great info and agree

Thinking too the endowment created by longhorn inc. and whatever aggie has pulled off will soon show to be a huge waste of money.

In the long run green lighting NIL will go as the worst thing that happened to college sports...

Are y’all allowed to write a clause into the contract preventing the kid from hitting the transfer portal or leaving early? What about a morality clause?

A 17 or 18 year old football player will not sway me one bit to buy a product or service.

We all know they are getting paid to be directed to a certain school despite the system being setup to not do this.

NIL deals aren’t about giving kids money to play at your school.. The marketing dept has to develop an advertising strategy that produces a viable and trackable ROI. We are a 9 billion company, with a board, we can’t just throw money around to get a player to sign with a certain school. That’s foolish.

Alabama isn't in the same galaxy with A&M and Texas as far as frick you money. Alabama and LSU are on the same level. What makes Alabama different is what has always made them different. While the don't money to compete with Aggies and Longhorns, they will sell their souls to win. They will mortgage their homes, cash out retirements all to fund Bama football.

Good post. It is hard to imagine that a publicly traded company would participate in this due to the fact one of these kids could end up being accused or rape, murder, theft, etc. NIL seems to be a perfect opportunity for the ambulance chasing attorneys. Get one of these kids to be your spokesman. "One call, that's all, etc, etc". If I were in that business, that is the direction I would go.

Really all you need is for the kid to make a couple social media posts every month
Doubt any one is really looking at it expecting any sort of ROI

Yes, but they’re somewhat difficult to enforce, practically

Exactly, it’s about getting your brand out in front of their social media followers.

It has proven a tremendous ROI for my company. But I’m in a space that caters to the same group that might be following a top player on LSU’s team.

What A&M is doing is something totally different and much more like legalized pay2play. An oil field services company whose market is other companies in the oil field doesn’t need sponsorship-style marketing. Arguably, it could help in recruitment of of other A&M grads to work for the company.

My company focuses on spokesperson/sponsorship to spread knowledge about the brand. I’m in the concierge health/wellness space so a high-end athlete talking about how the service assists their recovery & readiness for competition is worthwhile.

there are a lot of ways to get around that. JUst make the contract on a quarterly basis. Or just put in the contract that they want a player in the state representing them and not a player at an out of state school, and if that changes the contract is voided, doesn't need to be school specific. The lawyers will figure out pretty quickly how to write these NIL contracts in a way that the schools and boosters don't get f'ed in these NIL agreements.

You are talking about actual NIL, in which a company like yours is simply using the player as a marketing asset.

In reality, that's not what 99% of NIL deals are in college. The players aren't even chasing those deals. They want the easy pay for play money.

You are EXTREMELY naive.

Quinn Ewers got $4 million to come to Texas. Does he get that in a single payment?

Is it from a company where he’s the face of a new campaign? Did a donor cut a check?
