I think LSU went to Aranda and said after CEO contract is up. You are our head coach. I mean look at his contract it says assistant head coach. Kinda trying to mold him into a young Nick Saban. He handles/helps the defense side of the ball and just lets the OC do his job

I hope Alleva was smart enough to do that.

Its more than a theory and a big reason (and no loss in recruiting) O got the job.

There are aspects of being a head coach and college ball in general that I believe Aranda might not like. Just speculation on my part based on interviews I have read and his personality. The head coach has to be the PR guy and is constantly interviewed. He is also responsible for all of the recruiting whether he is directly involved or not. And no matter if he let's his OC handle most of the offense he will still be held responsibele for that also.

How would he be at handling team discipline, internal team chemistry? What would his relationship with the all important fat cats be? He is already the highest paid assistant coach and he will be making 1.85 million next year and then 1.9 in 2018. At the point that his contract ends at the end of next season he will have been with LSU four years.

He has stated his family likes it here and there will always be pressure from them to not have to make another move. His three kids will have made friends they won't want to leave. Prior to LSU I believe three years at Wisconsin was the longest he had been in one place and he had changed jobs four times in the last 8 years.

So I don't think he is going anywhere and will sign a new contract for another three or four years. After his kids are out of school, I believe he will give the pros a try.

I do not think that LSU promised Aranda anything other than autonomy on his D. MY understanding is he is getting $1.9 mil this year and 2.0 mil next year and 2.1 mil in 2019. That makes him the highest paid asst in CFB on either side of the ball.

Now, some school MIGHT come after him but I think his salary at LSU will limit that. Plus, I think LSU would raise his salary accordingly to make staying here his best deal.

Can anybody tell me why we didn't just make him the Head coach last year?

I said it all last year during the hiring process.. Aranda is the most important coach LSU has, he was just too young to be promoted, but I would have been open with him and Oregeron and told Oregeron you have 4 years here to do as much as you can and then you will retire and hand over the reigns to Aranda, you will not be offered another contract, no changes.. Whats Oregeron going to say?...no?

such a silly way to think

Will Wade is 34

Lincoln Riley just turned 34, was 33 when promoted

Sean Mcvay is 32

Bigger jobs have done it, and we just did it here in another sport. So why do people keep saying stuff like this??

I have been very negative about many things concerning Canada and the offense, but I love me some Aranda. That guy is tremendous and is the only reason that Orgeron hasn't fallen flat on his face. Orgeron should be thanking him every second of every day.

i dont disagree.. I honestly dont think he is ready to run the major facets of the program though... his skill set to me is the most valuable and hardest thing to find.. and that is being a genius in the x's and O's of defense.. he really is a damn genius in what he does.. I just want him on staff for the next 30 years... If Im alleva, i have it in his contract that he is the next head coach for LSU and I would give O 3-4 years to fill the cupboard for him

Would potentially be awesome if so, but I doubt it. I think he’s got aspirations as an NFL DC

I think next year he'll have one of the best defenses if not the best defense in the country next season.

Gosh I hope.

I don't worry too much about who the OC is, I think a competent coach can more or less thrive.

Aranda though, he's all but irreplaceable to me.

everyone needs to unlax. remember some of those great defenses under Chavis? he could coach a great defense when the talent is there, and one thing coach O knows is that the game begins on both sides of the line.

we'll get a good OC and get him the talent to have a great defense.

don't think I don't appreciate coach aranda. not saying that at all. Love the guy. he's a genius. just won't be the end of the world if he moves on one day.
