2016, Aranda's first year on the job, went incredibly well. LSU ranked fifth nationally at 15.8 PPG given up, and 10th nationally at 4.76 YPP given up.

He proceeded to lose Tre White, Jamal Adams, Kendall Beckwith, Duke Riley, Dwayne Thomas, Tashawn Bower, Davon Godchaux, and Lewis Neal to graduation/NFL. That group includes 5 NFL rookie STARTERS.

He dealt with injuries to our best defensive returner in Arden Key. He dealt with injuries to one of our best new starters in Rashard Lawrence.

Did the defense drop off dramatically? Absolutely not. PPG given up only rose a field goal's worth to 18.8, and YPP against still ended up below 5.

We have the best DC in the country.

I worry about that at least 6 times per game.

I think LSU went to Aranda and said after CEO contract is up. You are our head coach. I mean look at his contract it says assistant head coach. Kinda trying to mold him into a young Nick Saban. He handles/helps the defense side of the ball and just lets the OC do his job. But hey that's just my theory.

Alleva will tell Coach O to let him walk and hire Lou Tepper.

Aranda is everything he's hyped up to be and more. He's not leaving for another college job, but there may come a day when he wants to match wits with NFL offenses and there won't be anything we can do about it.

I was thinking/hoping the same thing. I want Aranda around for a long time but it ain't about what I want. Dude's amazing

Your theory sounds great but I seriously doubt Alleva is thinking that way.

I agree. He had an ample amount of opportunities and said frick that. I think he and everyone else around knows he's the next man up. I'd be fricking pissed if he isn't our next coach

What makes you think he wants to hang around until O is gone? The time to make him HC was last year . It would've been a gamble but so was hiring O.

My dream scenario would be for Coach Aranda to stick around long enough to eventually get the HC gig.
