You are comically ignoring him pulling his ace after 4 innings and like 60 pitches. Hollan is nowhere near the level of smith

Went to the CWS 17 times, SEVENTEEN

And never won it all. In those 17 times he somehow only made the final game/series twice too

And losing in the supers isn’t? You can’t win it all in Omaha if you don’t even have a chance to play in Omaha.

I hate this mindset. It’s on the level of saying you wanted LSU to just lose to Tennessee after the Wake loss because it was going to be hard to win it all out of the losers bracket and going 1-2 was better somehow than losing in the semifinals or the championship.

Agreed. I'll take a trip to Omaha every single year.

Dave Van Horn has been at Arky for 20 years.

DVH took over an Arkansas program 20 years ago that had already been to 4 CWS and like 15 NCAAT appearances. they werent a bad program at all.

Skip took over here and it's like baseball didnt exist here before then. We had been 1 NCAAT before Skip got here.

Dont get me wrong, DVH has done a lot of good things at Arkansas, but the situations were pretty different for Skip vs. DVH. DVH couldn't sniff Skip's jock in terms of career (For that matter, almost no baseball coaches can).

no doubt in my mind it absolutely eats away at Arkansas fans they have had this much success with no title in baseball while watching LSU (with 2 different coaches), USCe, MSU, Ole Miss, UF and Vandy all win national titles while DVH has been coaching at Arkansas.

One of the best things about college baseball is Arkansas' fanbase not having a national title to beat their chests about.

They still think of themselves as the premier baseball program in the country. I can't even imagine their behavior if they actually won something.

Former SEC umpire told me DVH is the biggest a-hole in the conference.

Always underachieves in post season, number3 national seed couldn’t get out of their own regional

He's got one of the top classes ever coming in provided they don't lose too many of them to the draft (which they aren't expected to). I have a feeling they are going to get damn close to winning it all within the next two seasons.

Yup to put it in perspective they have like 2 more Top 100 overall perfect game recruits than we did this past class in their current class (And that was considered our best class ever). And only 1 of them is Top 35 or so, so they have a real shot to bring in a TON of Top 100 overall talent.

They hit the portal well early on too.

DVH is completely out of excuses to not win the whole thing over the next few years.

Agree with Van Horn being out of excuses...2018 will forever haunt him until it doesn't

But there's a whole bunch of top tier talent that's about to be injected into that program that might just take them over the hump. It's a really impressive class he's bringing in.

It seems like DVH’s teams always fall apart during the post season. Maybe he should take note of how our coach handles the SEC tournament and not go all out to win it.

Talent has not been the issue at Arky. They have had plenty of it in his time there.

I didn’t say he hasn’t - it just shows how difficult it can be to win a championship

They havent been short on talent but again the class they are about to bring in could be the best of all time by anyone. They have 13 Top 100 overall perfect game overall players, most of which are ranked 36-100 (12/13) so high chance of getting a lot of them to campus.

They are used to maybe having 2-5ish Top 100 overall recruits in any 1 class.

They will have never had this level of talent in the past.

It's like LSU football, we've never struggled for talent recently but it would be like us suddenly getting a class with like 8 5-stars and 14 Top 100 overall players. We've had some talent but nothing like that in a recruiting class.

He's mellowed a bit as he's become the dean of coaches and has aged. He also moved to that spot because John Cohen took an AD job.

It’s crazy they haven’t won one they’ve had some damn fine teams over the years

And it Makes me happy especially happy for Bama and Arkansas that State and Ole Miss won one. Bama isn't great now but back in the late 90s they should have won at least one CWS.

Skip broke them. Check out their records under Jim Wells post-1997 and even beyond Wells' tenure. They had a last gasp when Smoke opened the door for them. Couldn't sustain it.
