But it's hard not to start thinking that Jay Johnson is to Skip Bertman as Nick Saban is to Bear Bryant.

That's not to say Jay will win a natty each year or never have any bumps in the road. Everyone else is trying to win as well.

But it looks like he is building an absolute monster, and he has that singlular process focus that Saban has.

And I don't think Jay has any desire to go try to manage in the pros. His comments about unless you are a top 15 pick... you should play in college... for a team like one of these teams playing... about the environment... it was awesome.

And the tv guys made some good comments about the minors slimming down and the major league teams want players spendint less time in the minors... we could be setting up for an incredible run.

Sit back, grab a cold one (or cup of coffee) and enjoy the ride.

Right. With the popularity of college baseball increasing year over year and the introduction of NIL college baseball will become more and more attractive compared to to the minor leagues. Plus you get an education.

I don't think Jay wants to leave, either. He's talked about LSU being the Yankees of college baseball, and getting his dream job. Also, he's 46, so he'll be here for a while.

If he rises to a level where he has multiples titles in the coming 4-5 seasons, I can only imagine what kind of money we're willing to pay him. Definitely set the peak for how to pay a top D1 baseball coach. Somewhere in the $2M-$2.5M/yr wouldnt surprise me to keep him around if he reached that level over that time.

I’m a HUGE fan of Jay Johnson and what he’s doing here.

But let’s chill out. He won a title with one of the greatest pitchers in conference history, one of the greatest players in conference history, and a roster with a lot of key contributors left over from Maineri.

He might win 3 more titles. He might never win another one. He’s a great coach, but comparing him to the two greatest coaches in their respective sports after 2 years is a bit much.

You are a very LSU fan thing they will say when a player or coach has one season of great success.
Other common examples by low IQ LSU fans is when a player has a great game, one can bet a poster will start a topic where in the draft he should go or should they go pro early. Lol

So to be clear, you believe it is “low IQ “to pump the brakes on comparing a second year coach to the greatest people to ever coach in the game?

All while acknowledging, the success of said Coach and admitting to being a very big fan of what he is doing?

That is one hot take my friend. Even for this board.

This team could repeat. Fixed it, there is nothing easy about winning the natty in baseball. Last year’s team went through a gauntlet of tough games that were decided by a play or 2.

College baseball with NIL will be the new minor leagues. I was talking with my neighbor who is a pro scout for the Colorado Rockies said that owners have stated that they would much rather draft players from college than take chances on players straight out of high school. It is only a matter of time before great players realize they can make more money in college than going to minors.

My point is this, Jay Johnson is ahead of the curve with this and is getting talent to LSU like Skip did

Obviously Jay is no Saban at this point but I think he has the same mindset. And he might never get to Saban level simply because it’s so hard to win a natty in baseball. There are so many little things that have to go your way in the postseason. Think about how good our team was last year, and if Josh Pearson in playing 2 more feet towards CF he doesn’t make that catch and we aren’t national champions.

None of that is to be negative towards Jay or LSU. I think he’s the best coach in the country at this point and seems like he is in on LSU for the long haul

Eh depends on where they would be drafted. If they are a high draft pick, they aren’t going to make more money in college than through the draft.

I guess people can always change their minds and I won’t hold it against Jay if he does one day (I don’t think he will.)

But Jay got pretty specific last year when he said “This is the best job in baseball. I wouldn’t leave LSU to manage the New York Yankees.”

This board is nothing if not consistent.

After every win: Johnson better than Bertman.
After every loss: fire him

I would hate to see some of you people if you were big fans of a major league baseball team who plays 162 games a year with a game basically every single damn day. You'd be off to the funny farm the way you guys go up and down.

While 70 games (including postseason) makes each single game more consequential than a MLB season (162 plus postseason), the principle is the same.

The 1927 New York Yankees, still considered the greatest team of all time, went 110-44. That means they lost more than one-third of the time. That would blow the minds of these catastrophe syndrome idiots on here.
