I'm not as pessimistic as others, there are reasons why you wouldn't pitch Skenes today..

I get that. We all do, it's not some magical TD poster thought.

But I hope posters could see both sides...

Nicholls was close to beating Bama just now.

I know I said before, but we weren't as matter of fact winning this game today. Even with Skenes on the mound, we had multiple double plays that helped the game closer.

“It didn’t happen my way so it’s the wrong way!!”

This is everyone who didn’t want Skenes pitching

Either way it’s over so can we move on? This is a tiresome argument that we won’t know the outcome until Sunday

Regardless if it works or not it isn’t the right call.

So if PS doesn’t start Friday, but instead starts Saturday and we don’t win the regional, would it still be the right call?

For this crowd. YES

Results don’t matter. All that matters is their option on what gives the best chance to win. frick results.

They even said it. “Skip said sometimes you own or lose no matter your decisions”

So for them, you may lose with the right decision. But by golly, you made the right decision!!!!

If Joe Brady called a handoff to CEH on 3rd and 17 at Texas, and as CEH got tackled for a 2 yard gain they grabbed his facemask did Joe Brady make the right call, or would he have gotten lucky Texas got a 15 yard penalty when he gave up and was ready to punt?

Exactly. The coaches job is to give his players the best chance to succeed. Jay did not do that with his pitching rotation. Now it’s up to the players to bail him out.

Don't ever compare football to baseball.

LSU is going to win the regional. Just in an unorthodox and more difficult fashion.

Ok.

If tomorrow in the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded Jay pinch hits Jack Merrifield for Dylan Crews. And with an 0-2 count a curveball knicks Merrifield’ shirt sleeve and the Tigers win 10-9, are you going to praise Jay for making a great decision?

Skenes pitching a complete game gives us more room for error. We have more arms available if someone doesn’t have it over the next few games. We could have pitched 2-3 guys today and won, but we need bodies going forward.

23,
Please elaborate on why you are so adamant that pitching PS Friday is wrong regardless of the regional outcome. I’m not being an arse, I’m legit wanting to understand the thought process.
I read the other posters analogy about a face mask penalty and “being lucky” getting a first down but that doesn’t explain why PS pitching today is wrong vs him pitching Saturday.
I believe I understand arguments for both situations but I’m interested in why you believe it wrong regardless of outcome.

Jay could start Christian Little on the mound tomorrow. He could go out and throw 7 innings of 1 run baseball and the Tigers would win.

But it still would have been the wrong decision for the manager to make. You just don’t leave it up to fate. You are supposed to set the rotation to give your team the best chance to win the regional.

I don’t see how they can’t see this. We literally only used one pitcher. No bullpen. That’s a huge win.

Ok, so explain what the best rotation is to win the regional and please don’t leave out the details.
I appreciate your response, but I guess I’m trying to understand what better situation we could be in from a pitching standpoint (considering our opponents for THIS weekend) going into game two

Of course he could. The likelihood of him doing it is slim.

He could start Dutton too. Again, the chances are slim.

We used one pitcher today. A pitcher that was going to be used in either game one or two. There are a lot of arms available.

Those arms have lost 3 of the last 4 times they have been available to pitch. Yes, we have lost 3 of Ty Floyd’s last 4 starts. It’s not all Floyd’s fault. The bullpen hasn’t helped him at all.

But go ahead and trust that combo instead of beating the 40 loss team with that combo and letting Skenes handle the team that just scored 18 runs tonight.
