We are in agreement that it makes no sense to “melt”—the only way we’ll be rid of McM before the next 3 years is if he decides to accept another job like Trent Johnson did. Otherwise, settle in and find other sports to follow between the end of football season and the start of baseball season. McM isn’t a long term solution. He’s a stop-gap coach and place filler. Hopefully in another 5 years, the next AD can hire a better coach who can return this program to competitiveness.

Why? What have I said that was irrational in here?

Hopefully, in five years McMahon proves everyone wrong and is experiencing success at LSU. Why anyone would be “hopeful” that we’re hiring a new coach is beyond me.

McMoribund is doing worse than he should with the hand dealt. He is recruiting poorly. He seems lost. He is being out coached by an interim coach on a very bad team.

Those are just some of the apparent reasons people are upset with the situation. The fact that we are going to have to sit back and take this for another 4 or 5 years makes fans of lsu basketball upset.

Let what play out? People are upset with the effort and execution. Even the worst players can hustle and execute. Yesterday even the announcers were clowning LSU for not hustling back on Defense, not executing offensively for stretches, carelessly turning the ball over, et. etc. etc.

No one is arguing that. But to hope for a new coach after 5 years rather than hope for success is just bizarre. But hey, you do you.

What is your gage for "success"?
Winning season
Make the tournament
SEC Champ

My personal gage doesn’t matter, but if you really want to know, I would say a couple of NCAA tournament appearances in the next 5 years would be viewed as successful.

Lot of simpletons

The last thing worth melting about is LSU basketball, especially after what caused the decline. There's more people melting about a sport that less cared about when they were winning.

A team that had no players last April, sucks. That's a news flash. A team that sucked at the beginning of the year still sucks now, another newsflash. Y'all should start 500 more threads to talk about it.

So far you haven't even given it 1 year. For a program that was completely gutted and facing sanctions.

I haven't offered an opinion on that in this thread. I agree that it was almost impossible for anyone to reasonably attack results this year given the state of the program.

Having said that, I believe that the coach next year is going to be replacing the ENTIRE roster again, minus maybe 1 or 2 insignificant players. This is STILL a complete rebuild. I don't think he will have made any progress towards building the program...and I don't think he will be able to bring in players that match up on paper to what he brought in this year.

So...what's the pitch to keep him? It costs too much to get rid of him?

What other options do you have? Bitch and moan on the rant for two more years? It's ok to be disappointed and even angry about the state of MBB without throwing a tantrum every day on the rant as some do (not calling out money, speaking generically)

So, you don't disagree that the state of the program is a disaster, and that McMahon isn't the guy you'd want leading the rebuild, but you feel out of options and just don't like the incessant complaints?

And then do absolutely nothing with it. And for the “let’s just see it play out crowd”, keep in mind he will be recruiting and rebuilding next year’s roster from a WORSE position of leverage than last season.

Upon getting the job McMahon could sell immediate playing time, an exciting brand of basketball, and a tremendous season at MSU as reasons why good players and recruits should take a chance on him. Nearly a year later he has completely crashed and burned, the program has quickly sunk past disgust to apathy, and he’s losing his only reliable scorer. His current HS recruiting class represents the lack of faith in him, and it is hard to see any impact transfers wanting to come to a place where they will be totally irrelevant.

Johnson at least won the SEC in his first season.
Jones and Wade had respectable first years with very low preseason expectations. More importantly, both had top 10 classes signed for the next season.

McMahon in year one?

But if anyone wants to chime in with actual reasons for optimism going forward beyond just baseless hope I’m all ears.

This part of your question I can confirm. Discussion and constructive criticism is one thing. What we get on the rant is another

I hope you’re right bud. I don’t see McM flipping the switch in years 3, 4, or 5, but I’d be happy if he did. I’m not rooting for McM to fail, however, I think we need to be realistic about his coaching abilities based on the product that we’ve seen so far.
