We've fallen off due to Coaching. I don't think people understand how much the program suffered from bad Coaching after 1/9/12. We always had the talent, just couldn't sustain with great Coaching. Which is why the Lane hire happened to fix that issue. We will see if that actually happens or not.

Truth. BUT our ceiling is higher. We’ve won three NCs since BCS era. And pre-NIL, when recruiting mattered, we certainly had the potential to be as consistent as Bama or OSU. That’s exactly the trajectory we were on when Saban left. What he did at Bama is what he was in the process of doing at LSU which is why it sucked so bad for us to witness.

Exactly. LSU is 8-9 plays away from being undefeated. There is a thin line between being good and being great. Right now we are good but not elite. There is time to get there and we have our toughest games at home and a tough road trip to Tenn but all of the remaining games are winnable. We will see how the team responds but people need to be patient. I don't care how much we spent on the roster you still don't have depth and you have 5 starters on the sidelines including your best offensive player and your defensive team leader. Win out and get healthy for AL and anything can happen.

Lsu has won the second most national titles over the last quarter century. Ole miss and KY have never even played in the SEC Cbamp game. You are an idiot.

And yet, we have won as many titles as Ohio State this century.

Uh no. We are not middle of the pack. We are a national championship program and kiffen will eventually get us back there. Just may not be in his first year.

No. You’ve just compared yourselves to Nick Saban era Bama when NOBODY is Nick Saban era Bama and never will be again.

LSU is doing what every other school with enough money to ever win a championship. They win one every 10 years or so just like everyone else who has the ability to win one.

You guys just think LSU should be a dominant team every year and that’s just not realistic.

So because pre 2000 we were mediocre, we should just accept that? Don’t be a loser.

Where did I say we should accept being mediocre? We ARE more so mediocre than a dominant football team.

I swear the Louisiana public school did some of y'all no favors.

And yet Ohio State is always in contention to win one every year, while we aren't even making the playoffs.

And it comes down to sustained coaching success, which I believe we have with Kiffin

disagree with OP

LSU is very capable of winning against any team in the country

there isn't a wide gap

Georgia is a complete team...probably has more depth than anyone at this point

Man the Miles years still frustrate me because he had multiple years besides 07 and 11 that were definitely championship quality too..

Silly or sad thing with this playoff system now; SEC teams have a tougher road to get in. If LSU was in Sun Belt, or similar, they would be 12-0 or 11-1 just about every year and lock for playoffs. Kinda like Notre Dame easy road to playoffs. Bottom line is they simply don’t have the truly top 12 teams in playoffs.

Miles won one, we stayed consistently good. Got to another and got embarrassed and that was the downfall of Miles.

Miles kept this team as a double digit winner playing in the SEC W.

LSU was the second best team in all of college football from 2007 to 2019 amd top 5 from 2003 to 2007.

In fact, apart from Os tank years and the BK failure...

LSU is a top 5 team in the modern era of college football.

LSU owned the NFL with Ohio State and Alabama for an entire generation.

You sir, are objectively wrong.

LSU is a top 10 program since 2000….if that’s not upper tier, then I don’t know what to tell you

LSU is a top brand that has never been consistently dominant in football in recent history, outside of the Les Miles era of 2005 - 2011.

I agree LSU was not a top tier program in the 20th century. Don’t think anyone would argue otherwise.

But I also don’t think anything prior yo the BCS era is all that relevant, to be honest.

From 2001 to 2011 we went to five BCS bowls in eleven seasons, should have had another in 2005 as well but JRs injury in the SECCG likely made us less appealing for a selection.

Still, we finished in the top 5 after the Peach Bowl dismantling of Miami (future CFP bowl and still a premier matchup back then).

Add in 2010 and that’s seven top 10 finishes in 11 seasons (six top 5), two NCs, four SEC titles, and played for a third BCS.

That is elite any way you slice it.

The argument can be made LSU was the top program of the BCS era.

Alabama obviously dominated the last five years, FSU and Miami the first few, with Florida and USC having nice four year runs in the middle.

But no one else matching our level for a decade or more.

Ohio State and Oklahoma had nice longer runs playing for multiple titles, but each only won once, and each lost head to head to you know who.

After a dominant BCS run, 2019 proved we could be elite in the playoff format as well, with our best team ever.

We haven’t proven we are elite yet in the NIL era, but most of us feel pretty damn good about the future there.

At age 88 - first LSU game 1947 - I am forced to reluctantly agree.
