If we're being honest, we've always been more middle of the pack than top tier

LSU is a top brand that has never been consistently dominant in football in recent history, outside of the Les Miles era of 2005 - 2011.

We pop off and win a championship every decade or so, and then the years that follow are mediocre and underachieving.

We are more on the level of Ole Miss and Kentucky in recent years than we really want to admit.

BUT... that's why a coach like Lane Kiffin was brought in.To bring us to the consistent levels of a Bama or Georgia by building a program.

We'll take some lumps here and there as he molds hte program into his vision, but we can't deny that football is more fun right now and with Lane and Co., I feel we always have a chance.

Yeah, Saturday sucked for many reasons. The refs beat us and we beat ourselves. We lost that game. We learn, we move on, and we keep fighting.

The future is bright, and I'm here for it.

It doesn’t matter what we’ve always been. We should be elite tier. We recruit like that. We spend money like that. We should be like that. And there’s not a coach or player on this team that does not believe that. If you expect mid tier, start spending mid tier.

Name another program where 3 coaches can win a title at in succession?

I'll wait.

Yeah, and also what did those coaches do after those championships?

Saban left for the pros. Can't fault him there.

Miles won one, we stayed consistently good. Got to another and got embarrassed and that was the downfall of Miles.

Orgeron was the equivalent of finding the powerball winner in a parking lot. The team tanked after him.

Kelly proved a coach can't just show up here and win a championship.

My point, there's absolutely no consistency with LSU as a football program. I believe Lane can fix that.

LSU has been unfortunate enough to always make the wrong coaching hiring, thus stalling consistent success and program stability.

We never were a Bama or Ohio State level program.

Historically LSU has always been in that second tier right there with Auburn and Penn State. We just have it in our minds that we are in that top tier because we randomly rattle off a championship out of the blue and have a lot of players go to the nfl.

I hope Kiffin puts it all together like Kirby did at UGA and turns it into Saban’s bama 2.0 but that’s just next to impossible. He can talk the talk and act like he’s Saban/Carroll Jr but ultimately on field results are all that counts.

People act like this isn’t a great feat. There are many teams that never even sniff a title. It’s not easy to win one.

I will never be accepting of mid-tier expectations. Never. Not for anybody. I don’t care how much I like the coach. Same expectations I had for Les Miles, Ed O, Brian Kelly, or who-the-frick ever. Get it done.

It doesn’t mean fire the guy after one year. But the expectation will never change.

It is great, but what also isn't great is the absolute dregs LSU falls into after winning a championship.

2019 should have been a spring board into a great run, but we had the absolutely wrong coach, as usual.

And don't blame Covid because Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, etc. have all been consistently good since then.

A team that is anywhere from 9-13 historically isn’t middle of the pack.

With that in mind, what do you think is missing this year such that LK said "this team can beat anybody we play in the SEC and this team can lose to any team in the SEC"? While I pretty much agree with that comment, what do you think he thinks this team is missing to change the second half of that statement? One thing about the 2019 team is that there was very little thought they could/would lose to any other team in America, and they proved it.

At present, this year's team makes too many self-inflicted mistakes to be top tier. Simple as that.

A 24-team playoff will be a better match for LSU's garden variety-type season.

I don’t know. The OM first half was a disaster. I put that on preparation. That’s on the HC

Kentucky could have been thrown in the “shite happens” barrel if you don’t have the OM loss. But you did. So, what went wrong?

Poor defensive decisions and play at key moments. DC

Being too conservative at the wrong times. HC

Turnover at the worst time. QB

This is a win if just one of those doesn’t happen. And it’s the difference between elite and not elite. Get it fixed. It’s hard to make complete and final conclusions yet until you see how things respond.

So because pre 2000 we were mediocre, we should just accept that? Don’t be a loser.
