Agree, Lane is already the quasi OC. Not worried about offense as long as LK is here.

While that’s a good fallback and keeps the wheel turning, it’s almost always better for the head coach to be out of the full game play calling and focused on overall and team management. There are a few who handle it well, but most either give it up on their own or end up being forced to because it distracts them from one role or another.

It was interesting hearing Billy Napier talk about this in a recent interview. He held onto play calling until the bitter end at UF and now admits what a mistake that was. Even back at a smaller G6 program, he now has an OC calling plays for him.

Kiffin already has his OC on staff. This has been known forever. It doesn't honestly matter, all he needs is someone to help call while he HCs. It's going to be his offense regardless. And if it doesn't workout with someone like Cox, Kiffin will just do the entire PCing himself.

Who? Cox?

I don't know if that will be the case. I honestly wouldn't love that.

The beauty of having Kiffin is that we never have to worry about this being an issue.

Yeah, a great offensive HV can take any OC, and just have him do the day-to-day grind.

Look at Kentucky, they're running Stein's offense. Sloan's just handling the schedule of practices and picking from preset plays.

Tee Martin is OC in waiting .. Lane has had that planned out well in advance

No way.

I guess it would probably be joe Cox out of anyone on staff. He has been with kiffin forever and knows the offense. He is the co-oc.

To the people saying carroll, I don't believe it. He just came tk study the offense. It wasn't like kiffin went looking for someone else. He clicked with weis so they let him help out.

It could even be Stevens calling plays since he is in the booth with weis.

If Blake takes a HC job, do we go after Aranda?

How do you figure? Give me some examples of what sets Lincoln Riley runs that Lane and Weis dont.

Just let Lane do what he does and save a few million

Zero chance of that. Lane has talked about how nice it is for CWJ to take care of the offense while he’s doing other things. Obviously Lane is very much involved, but CWJ makes Lane’s life considerably easier/better. Lane has matured a lot and he’s at the point where he doesn’t forget things that work/don’t. He’s not going back to trying to do it all.

Furthermore, the only way to save money is to make it in today’s game. You do that by winning and winning big.

My speculation is it's Cox since he heavily gameplans with both Kiffin/Weiss.

Cox has never called plays. Counting this season, Cox has 3 seasons as the Co OC/TE’s coach. To see how this could end up, look no further than aTm. Their OC Holmon Wiggins was the Co-OC, then given the job this season. aTm is at .500, with more losses to come.

Wiggins had never called plays, I have a number of coaching friends that graduated, played and coached at aTm. When talking with them before the season, this was their biggest concern.

A Co-OC can and will help with the game planning, but only one guy is calling plays, Weis. A trick play, something we see often in a game, Lane or Weis will discuss the time of when to call it.

A coaches play sheet or card, before a game, has down and distance, yards, etc.
Thought week of the game, adds to the sheet. Many of the OC draft their first 20-25 plays. Using formations, seeing the looks given by the defense. One of my best friends has a 2 minute card and a OT card, if the game gets to that point.

I posted much of the same in September.

I think A&M OL maybe worse than Ole Piss’… plus it’s A&M first road game.]

aTm’s OC Wiggins, Joe Sloan has called way more plays, an it isn’t close.
From my friends at aTm, they wished Elko would have brought in a new OC.
This one could get ugly fast. Looking at aTm film, Baker will pick his spots, and should win this battle.”
