quote:No. There is no scheme that will work if your offensive line gets whipped that badly.
3 men pushing our OL around like rag dolls leaves 8 to smother our receivers. If our offense sees that front is there some way to make it work to our advantage?

Nuss’ pocket awareness and movement are elite for a college QB, and he is being praised for that by NFL scouts. Also, you are neglecting that those modest sack/hurry numbers are occurring with mostly three and four man rushes. THAT is not middling in college football

We have to make them adjust or stop doing it.
First thing - need more succcess on first down. 3rd and long and the defense dropping 8 isn’t going to yield a huge success ratio. And is asking for Nuss to try and force something when he isn’t able to zip the ball.
On passing downs you have to mix in some underneath screens (like we did to Anderson against Clemson) and you absolutely have to hit some deep balls. There are plenty of one on one opportunities with deep balls and Nuss was horrible against ole miss. As bad as a division 1 qb could possibly be.

No pressure because he is releasing the ball quickly (as he is being told to do) b/c the OL is bad.

Because he is throwing the ball quickly. They are not pushing the ball downfield due to a lack of a decent OL.

I miss Moffitt
You dummies keep saying this but seem to forget the last two years of Orgeron/Moffitt our guys were soft and got pushed all over the place on both sides of the ball.

We’re softer now. So what’s your point? Moff would be better than what we have.

You’re hilarious. Go rewatch Moffitt’s last 2 seasons at LSU. That’s the point, dummy.

Move the freakin pocket for a change. Stop the DL from just rushing to one spot on the field. Create better passing lanes for Nuss and receivers, especially on the much needed short yardage passing situations. If defender runs with the receiver, Nuss/MVB both have enough speed to make a few yards and first downs. We kill ourselves by throwing out patterns to a TE, over and over and over. It has to stop!! Stop standing in the pocket breaking down and throwing out passes short of the first down marker.
FInd some creativity and build options off of it.....stop running the same crap without options.

ell me you don’t watch the games without telling me you don’t watch the games. The OL is CLEARLY the problem we have. Hell, SELA pushed them around until they got tired because of relative talent
LSU was an awful rushing team last year too with a completely different OL. As for pass protection, LSU's sacks per game this year (1.3) is exactly the same as last year (1.3) (though the sack % is slightly higher)
I'm not going to sit here and tell you the OL has been great. But when you have essentially the exact same results despite playing 12-13 different individual o-linemen over the past two seasons, it's unlikely the issues are due to ALL of those players being poor run blockers. It's a dogshit approach to the running game and overall scheme implemented by the OC. Get 5 new OL next season with the same approach/scheme and you'd have the same result.

not to beat a dead horse, but Nuss gotta run!!! If he starts doing that and picking up 3 or 4 yards per carry, then they will have to adjust.

What is this fake hypothetical?
He was sacked once against OM.
7 QBH
While I have watched every pass attempt against Ole Miss I will not say that the offensive line was great in pass protection but they were not terrible either. They did continue to struggle picking up stunts. The 1st 3rd down Nuss got absolutely rocked because LT and LG could not pass off a simple stunt on a 3-man rush.
That did happen a few times but for the most part the pass protection held up we just couldn't have all 3 levels of players do their job every play. When the pass protection held up we had tight ends or receivers running poor routes. When the receivers and tight ends ran good routes the offensive line would have a missed assignment or have a rough pass protection rep.
I am more worried about seeing if our offensive play calling can be more effective against a rush 3 drop 8 style defense. The plays are there if we coach it and practice it correctly.

agreed!

The only way to stop them from rushing 3 and dropping 8 in coverage. Is to run the damn ball. If we can’t run against that front nothing else matters.

here's always advantages to be had against any defensive alignment - just wondering how you'd take advantage of teams going at you with 3 DL.
We cant become a power team, hell, we cant
Hell, we didnt even run duos that I noticed against Ole Miss.

Run the ball 75% of the time and throw play action passes the other 25% of the time. Try to dominate the clock on offense, and hope the defense can stay fresh and keep the other offense off the field and avoid the big play. Otherwise, LSU is prone to be routed.
